Canadian Soldier salutes as the flag draped casket of Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick is unloaded from  the plane

Prince George, B.C.-  Corporal Darren James Fitzpatrick is home.

Following Saturday’s  funeral for  the fallen  soldier in Edmonton, his flag draped casket  arrived at Prince George Airport  shortly after 4:00 this afternoon on the  same West Jet flight which carried his  grieving  family and friends.

The ramp ceremony at Prince George Airport had the same sombre military air as did the funeral at St. Joseph’s Basilica.

Corporal Fitzpatrick  died on March 20th  at the University of Alberta Hospital from wounds  suffered  when  an IED exploded  while  he was on patrol west of Khandahar March 6th.    Corporal Fitzpatrick had  joined the Armed Forces shortly after graduating from Kelly road Secondary School. He was a member of the Princess Patricia Light Infantry and had been in Afghanistan since October, he was 21.

Corporal Fitzpatrick will be laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at 1:00  in the Prince George Cemetery.
