Prince George, B.C.- The Fight HST campaign got off to a fast start with 1800 names collected on the petition in Ft. St. John on the first day the petition was available in that community.
Mike Summers, the regional campaign Captain says in the Prince George region there will be a meeting this Sunday at the Professional Building at 1705 Third Avenue.
“We are still waiting for the paperwork for a couple of the canvassers, but we could still use volunteers”.
Summers says they are holding off on their petition blitz in the three Prince George area ridings (Prince George-Mackenzie, Prince George- Valemount and Nechako Lakes) until Sunday when the petition papers and the identification tags for canvassers will be distributed to the canvassers.
“This is such a hated tax, we feel absolutely confident we will get the signatures we need, and we will” says Summers.
There are just over 50 volunteers who have signed up in the Prince George area. Summers says he could still have some more sign up to help in the effort in Fort St. James, Fraser Lake and Huston.
The campaign needs to collect signatures of 10% of all those on the voters list from each of the ridings in the Province in order for it to be successful. The canvassers have until July 5th to collect all the signatures they need to force the Provincial legislature to either hold a referendum or reverse its decision on adopting the HST.
If the effort fails, there is expected to be a recall effort in the Premier’s home riding.
