Prince George, B.C.- It's official,  Mike Raimbault, the  UNBC Timberwolves  Men's Basketball Coach is off to Winnipeg.  The University of Winnipeg made the announcement  this hour:

"The 28-year-old Raimbault comes to UWinnipeg after most recently guiding the Northern British Columbia Timberwolves to the Canadian College National Championship in March following a 17-1 win-loss mark in regular-season play. For his accomplishments the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association named Raimbault its Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

Mike is a passionate, energetic and knowledgeable basketball coach who is a proven winner in his young career. He is a great teacher and leader who has been active and connected with the communities he has been part of and will be the ideal person to lead our program, on the court and in the community.

The Brandon native has significant head coaching experience for someone so young. He was also the interim head coach for the Brandon University Bobcats in 2007-08, steering the team to a 20-2 win-loss record in Canada West play.

Raimbault is a graduate of Brandon University with degrees in Education and General Studies."
Here at home, Raimbault   has issued this statement:  “This is a great opportunity for me and my family, but it has been a very tough decision” says Raimbault, who was named the 2009-10 Canadian Colleges’ Athletic Association Coach of the Year. “Being here has been a highlight of my career and I can’t say enough about the great group of guys I’ve had the privilege of coaching during my two years at UNBC. We’ve had the best fans and terrific support from the University. I know there are going to be many more great achievements in the future of UNBC Athletics; it’s just too bad that I won’t be part of them.”

“I want to personally thank Mike for his contributions to UNBC and wish him well in Winnipeg,” says UNBC President George Iwama. “In a spirit of friendly competition, I look forward to the first basketball game between UNBC and UWinnipeg. The Timberwolves will be in fine form, as will be our drummers right behind his bench!”

UNBC has applied for membership in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and would participate in the same conference (Canada West) as the University of Winnipeg. UNBC expects to hear a decision on its membership application by later this spring. The University is also currently seeking an Athletic Director and the deadline for applications is April 16.

“I am happy for Mike and his family and he will be very much missed. This team is an incredible group of guys and I know almost all of us plan on returning next year. We are really looking forward to another great season at UNBC,” says CCAA player of the year and Academic All-Canadian Inderbir Gill.
