Prince George, B.C.- It has been one week since the Fight HST campaign was launched in Prince George, and canvassers have collected about half of the necessary signatures in one of the three ridings in the area.
In Prince George Valemount, the threshold is 3,427 and so far, 1728 signatures have been collected.
The collection of signatures a little slower in two other ridings, in Prince George Mackenzie, the threshold is 3243, and 1268 signatures have been collected. For Nechako Lakes, the threshold is 1615, and 610 signatures have been collected.
Organizers are hoping to collect 5% more names than are required in order to make sure there is enough to cover errors or signatures deemed invalid. All signatures must be submitted by July 5th. If one riding fails to collect the necessary 10%, then the initiative fails for the whole Province.
There is a central officer where people can go in Prince George to add their names to the petition. That office is at the Professional Building at 1705 - 3rd Avenue. The office is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
