Prince George, B.C.- The Site “C” dam is   going ahead.  Premier Gordon Campbell made the announcement moments ago at the W.A.C. Bennet dam   at Hudson’s Hope.

If the project  clears the environmental assessments and gets support from First Nations,  the project is expected to generate 35,000 direct and indirect jobs, and is expected to come into service in 2020.

It will be the third dam on the Peace river, situated a few kilometres east of Fort St. John and downstream of the Bennett and Peace Canyon dams.

The 900 megawatt project would become the fourth-largest dam in B.C. Hydro's hydroelectric assets.

In a news release issued  this hour, the Government describes Site C  as a  source of "clean and renewable energy for over 100 years, producing enough electricity to power approximately 410,000 homes per year."

Way to ruin my day.
Yahoo, progress.

Thanks Gordo, A lot of premiers toyed with it, but none of them had the cahonees to push it through.
Can't wait for BC to be rid of Gordon Campbell!
I'm burning an effigy tonight.
BC is going to be one big scorched earth by the time Gordo is finished. BCR, massive Olympic debt,HST and now site C.
yeah, I know, isn't it great. Finally a leader that is not afraid to lead. A leader that does not fall in the trap of kissing the feets of special interest groups. Too bad, Gordo is gonna retire in August.
HUH? Gordo retiring?? Where did you hear that?
Just my opinion, he will get the HST in, and take the heat for it, and do a stage exit right. That's just my opinion. That way it will give the party enough time to reinvent themselves before the next election.
Hey, can we get rid of that Overpass in the Pine Pass, so that Prince George can be a major contributor to the dam project. Just a thought.

Can we get rebuilding the Chetwynd, Hudson HOpe and Charlie Lake Road rebuilt into a major throughway. That way we can also access Ft. Nelson quicker.

Just a few items on our want list.
Gotta agree with He spoke, good for Gordon to not let the special interest groups and vocal minorities run the province.
Sorry mrpg; but this province is run by special interest groups and small vocal minorities that have the Liberals in their pockets!
Best news in a while.
He Spoke:
They have already started fixing some areas in the Pine Pass, but you're right with the need to get rid of the two underpasses and also the bridges at Salmon and Parsnip Rivers. Hopefully they start impelmenting these projects sooner rather than later.
anyone opposed to this project better recycle their computer. electricity has to come from somewhere. Your computers don't run on your own sense of self-satisfaction.
