Maybe The City Should Look At Foothills To See How We Look After Garbage

While the City is busy promoting “Clean to the Core" it might want to direct the Police, transportation , bylaws and who ever else will sit along Foothills Boulevard to hand out a few fines.  Fines  would be in order for those who collect the garbage and then feel quite at ease dumping it along Foothills  as the junk flies out of their utility trailers or  pick up trucks as they head to the dump.

Thank God for the inmates of the Prince George Regional Correctional Center  who can be seen on a regular basis cleaning up the side of the thoroughfare.  Without them, Foothills would look like a page out of the recent Haitian earthquake.

A photo op showing a Councillor from the city picking up a bit of garbage must be laughable for those who must use Foothills every day and see the unending  trail of garbage from mattresses, bags of leaves , chairs and anything else one could image, strewn along the roadway.

There are laws against this sort of thing, but it seems the City feels it is more important to (as the Mayor says) “clean to the core “. There is little value in "cleaning to the core" your Worship and then dumping the mess along the way to the landfill site.

If the City, in its infinite wisdom, can promote a clean city, it might start by enforcing the laws that are already on the books instead of casting a blind eye to the problem at hand.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

You are right Ben. The Mayor and his band of merry men are so worried about cleaning up the "core" the rest of the city looks like a garbage dump. Get your heads out of the downtown dumpsters and look around...the streets are a mess..the ditches full of junk..you are running around downtown like it is the oinly things that matters. There are more people who live in this city then the select few who live and work in the hell hole you call the core. Get out and look around..see what condition the rest of us have to live in and look at..never mind. It's up hill and the bike ride would be to tough
did you say "thank God for the inmates ? "
I think what Ben is referring to is that Corrections takes inmates there as part of their work program and they clean up along Foothills.

What amazes me is just how much trash and litter there is all over Northern BC. I'm not sure what the solution is but something should be done. Wake up folks, the rest of BC (and most of North America) is virtually litter free - perhaps this is how maintain our identity...yuck!
Couldn't agree more with Ben's commentary. Even though they are the minority, there are a number of lazy pigs making the majority of the messes.

Two weeks ago, I went for my first hike of the Spring season at LC Gunn park. At the end of the trail, somebody obviously thought that location would be a convenient place to dump an old washing machine, and a few bags of garbage

With pig like this, no wonder some folks think our city song should be Dueling Banjos.
Most of that garbage along Foothills is flying out of the cities own garbage trucks! I have seen this more than a dozen times now.
I have to agree with IMO....seen this lots, garbage flyin from overloaded city garbage trucks. I was waiting to pull out on Highland and seen junk flyin from a city garbage truck coming FROM the dump! Anyone who ever has taken a tour of the area behind the north scales or around the dumpside of foothills will agree how disgusting this area is....junk every wheres. Burnt out vehicals , fridges, stoves....you name it.
I dont travel up foothills much but i see garbage everywhere. If you see garbage fly out of a vehicle write down the licence plate regardless of who owns it. Report it to city bylaw enforcement and let them do thier jobs instead of whining...
When our fancy new one man garbage trucks pick up our fancy new garbage cans from the curb, observe how much garbage flies off down the road rather than landing in the truck where it belongs.
People seem to think it's ok to toss loose paper/plastic in their cans rather than putting all their garbage in bags and then into their cans. When the driver observes all this flying garbage they should be permitted to write littering tickets to the offenders on the spot.
I for one am sick and tired of having to pick up all my neighbours garbage from my yard!
One has to only go down any rural backroad to see garbage, old washers, dryers and renovation waste that people are too lazy to take to the Foothills landfill. One problem is the regional transfer stations are only open 3 full days, and midweek only half days till 1 pm, closed wed and thurs.I am sick and tired of people dumping garbage wherever they choose. Owning a large acreage in rural PG I am always seeing piles of debris dumped along roadways or powerlines or fields. One day I will catch them in the act and then they will know why we have lagoons in the country.Hope they're good at holding their breath.
another problem which is causing the offloading of construction supplies and appliances is the tipping cost at the dump. Our household garbage doesnt have a tipping fee, but every thing else does.
A pile of that garbage comes from the Waste Managment trucks, I follow them up there and watch the stuff just flying out of the back. What really gets me is how people lose matresses and stuff like that. Duh.....when I left the house I had that? On the way home.....Oh there it is close your eyes honey.
