Prince George, B.C.- Ray Gerow has been elected as Chair of the College of New Caledonia’s Board of Governors.
Gerow, a Wet’suwet’en from the Burns Lake Band, becomes the first person of Aboriginal descent to lead the CNC board in its 40-year history.
“I am honoured to be selected to help lead CNC during such an exciting time,” Gerow told the board. “With record enrolment and the creation of new programs such as mining technology and Med Rad Tech, the college is showing its ability to quickly adapt and fulfill the needs of industry and society.”
Gerow, who was acclaimed to the position, had been the interim chair since Bruce Sutherland retired from the board in January. Gerow is President and CEO of the Prince George Aboriginal Business Development Association.
“Ray brings a unique perspective and energy to the Board Chair position and is an excellent leader who speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to question things,” said CNC President John Bowman. “His past experience as vice-chair and his leadership in having Aboriginal ancestry recognized as a bona fide employment qualification for specific positions at CNC have given him a very solid foundation at the college.”
Linda Smerychynski was also acclaimed as vice-chair chair of the board for Prince George.
Bob Murray was acclaimed as vice-chair of regions.
