Prince George, B.C.-  Another piece of Prince George's past has  been demolished.

The Sons of Norway Lodge on Valhalla Road at Tabor Lake  was  torn down over the weekend.

Over the years, the  Lodge was the scene of  picnics,  summer fun,  winter cross country skiing and snowmobiling events.

The building had been deemed unsafe some time ago.

Here are some  photos of the weekend wrecking:

Above, Excavator takes another bite out of the remaining  roof.

Below, left last bits of metal roof are torn down,  while at right,  major timbers are burned while excavator tears down  remaining walls

And this was because?????? .... no more sons left to maintain the building over the years?
gus,

its been awhile since they have run the lodge, but if I remember correctly I heard stories of how the liability insurance was getting to high, maintenance costs getting to high, and a loss of interest in the business.
interesting to see the picture of a fire at the demo site, I was of the understanding that was no longer allowed?
Thats too bad, I once attended a graduation dance there, it was one of the best dances I ever went to. But when theres no one to pay to fix these old pieces of history what can you do?
Yep had a few parties out there, Loved it when they did the haunted house. Lots of fun out at that lodge.....

Yep, get old and cricketty in me joints. I guess, I'm gonna be a coffin dodger before you know it.

Those were the days my friend, when we use drink and dance.
Ahh the memories of good times so long ago.
Sad to see the old girl go, but she has been neglected of late.
