Prince George, B.C.- Don’t forget, if you are cleaning up the garage, a storage shed or the yard this morning and you come across some old tires from a car or light truck, you can get rid of them free of charge today.

The Tire Round Up is on from 9-3 today at the CN Centre parking lot. Old tires ( inside diameter of 16 inches or LESS) will be accepted.

This is a program run by Tire Stewardship B.C.

The tires will be taken to a facility in Delta where they will be reduced to crumbled rubber (all metals removed) and ready for re-use. Tire Stewardship’s Round Up program spares ( if you will pardon the pun) landfills from 40 thousand tonnes of tires every year.

Such a deal! They receive something we paid an environmental levy on, recycle it into rubber mats, sell it back to us, and we don't even have to pay them for it!

I love backwards reasoning.

What's next? Government crying out in pain as they increase taxes on the electorate? How about being charged for the air we breath and being told we still pay among the lowest rates of air breathers in the country, nay, the world.

They make the effort to collect the tires so they are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner and don't end up in landfills or get dumped somewhere in the bush.

It's our tire levy at work. Pretty good, I would say.
