Prince George, B.C.- More than 200 CNC students are expected to accept their parchment at the college’s 2010 convocation ceremony today.
A total of 216 graduates will attend the 2 p.m. ceremony at CN Centre.“The number of students who are participating in this year’s convocation is only a fraction of those who actually graduate every year,” says CNC President John Bowman, “Many cannot participate because of work or other commitments.”
Students will receive certificates and diplomas from a number of college programs, including: business and management, academic foundation and social services, health sciences and technologies and trades.
“This is a major personal achievement and huge milestone for our graduates,” adds Bowman. “The goals, dreams and aspirations that motivated them to enrol at CNC are nearing fruition. In as little as 10 months, they have turned their lives around. The college is very proud of their hard work and dedication to learning.”
The Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal and the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal will also be presented.
The Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal is awarded to the CNC student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post-secondary program. Medical laboratory technology science student Kyla Sorenson is this year’s recipient who earned a 4.33 GPA.
The Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal is awarded to a CNC student in a vocational or career program that is less than two years long, who has excelled in his or her studies and who has contributed to the life of their post-secondary institution or their community. Early Childhood Education student Melanie Schroeder will receive this medal after she earned a GPA of 4.33.
