Auto Thefts Drop in 2009

Prince George, B.C.-   While the number of auto thefts in Prince George was down in February ( lowest in several years, see previous story) the numbers were also down significantly for all of 2009.
 
The   year end stats indicate there were 230 vehicles stolen in all of 2009, that’s down 18% from 2008 and  a reduction of 54% since 2003.   The worst year for auto thefts in Prince George was 2006 when 520 vehicles were stolen.
 
Stats also indicate thefts from vehicles were also down. There were 210 cases of theft from vehicles reported in all of 2009, that’s a drop of 13% from the number of cases reported in 2008 and an 81% reduction compared to 2003 when there were 1,110 thefts from vehicles  reported.
 
According to ICBC, here are the top 10 vehicles targeted for theft in Prince George and the rest of the north central region of the province:
