Quesnel, B.C.- The internal investigation into the take down at gunpoint of a mentally challenged male in Quesnel is over and no further action will be required.
You may recall that in late March, Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a male with a gun walking in the area of Correlieu Secondary School. The suspect was taken down at gunpoint and placed in handcuffs by members of the Quesnel RCMP detachment. Police say it was not until the man was in handcuffs did they determine the suspect, a 49 year old male, was mentally challenged, and that the gun was a toy.
The incident received a great deal of attention after the man’s family made allegations of excessive force.
An internal investigation was launched in order to review the way in which police had handled the incident. A Senior Member of the RCMP from another detachment conducted the internal investigation.
The RCMP members involved in this incident met with the family April 14th in order to talk about the issues and clarify concerns.   According to a release from the RCMP, “All parties agreed that this incident was extremely unfortunate and the meeting allowed for a much better understanding from both sides. The family was appreciative of this dialogue and, as a result, has determined that no further investigation is required into this matter.”

That's pretty fair. i think it was good that no body got trigger happy, and no body suffered physical injury.
Exactly as I suspected. Just more of the same.....criminals avoiding punishment.
PaysHisOwnWay, you may want to consider the opposite outcome of this before you comdemn the Police. What if Police took the call, and assumed it was probably nothing, maybe a toy gun etc etc AND it had been real and the person had started shooting up a High School. Then what?? I am kind of thinking you would have something to say about that to. Police aren't perfect, and they have to go on the information at hand. If you can do it better, I suggest you apply.
this was a unfortunate incident,i"am sure very ypsetting for this mans family, but had the rcmp not acted as they did and this was the real thing many more lives could have been changed forever
The safety of the public and the officers is #1 and #2 in this case and the risk asscessment warranted the actions taken until it was determined the gun was a toy/replica.
And the male was mentally challenged.
I think pay his own way, just did not read all of it, or just skimmed through it.

I think the rcmp did this one right, and what was the need for an internal investigation.
If you have been following all the reporting on this violent action then a few tid bits of information jump out.

"Orange & Silver Star Trek gun that was not even on his person at the time of the take down"

"Injuries treated at hospital"

"90lbs mentally challenged man"

If this is what they are teaching at depot then no wonder there is zero respect for the RCMP anymore.

To write it off as acceptable with a few "What ifs?" is laughable. The sheep rise up if you mention HST but once again RCMP brutality is fine.
Doesn't matter payyourownway. The fact that the "gun" was a star trek toy was not known until after the event.

A 90 pd person can pull a trigger as easily as a 200 pd person can.
