Prince George, B.C.- Forget about starting the car or truck today, this is Bike to Work Week in Prince George.

This is the second year for the event hosted by the Prince George Cycling Club and sponsored by Participate Prince George. It will run through to the 6th of June and is aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle and cleaner environment.

“The event is designed to challenge commuters to leave their cars at home and pedal to work, and is targeted at cyclists who may need a little extra incentive and support to try cycling to work for the first time,” says organizer Jillian Merrick. “We have a lot of events running during and beyond Bike to Work Week that showcase all the city has to offer in terms of cycling and to provide support to cyclists to help make their morning commutes easy and fun.” Planned events include Celebration Stations with free food and prizes on May 31st and June 2nd, and a Bike-In Movie Night on June 4th.

Cyclists showing their participant stickers will also receive free transit during the week, to make commuting to and from distant areas a little easier.

“Last year we had 350 registered participants. Our goal for this year is to reach 500 participants”, adds Jillian.

Free support services such as food and beverages, tire and chain maintenance, helmet fitting, and prize draws are offered at Celebration Stations. To register, gather a team at your workplace and visit www.biketowork.ca/princegeorge.

From my patrols, I can say that PG streets are not very good for cycilists. Too many potholes and red neck drivers. Some cyclists are darwin award winners too. And what if it snows, again?
Ospika has to be the worst. I don't like driving my truck down it, never mind a bike.
Bike to work?

I take the stairs.

And then I am on vacation this week to boot. So I don't even take those.
