Prince George B.C-Baldy Hughes Addiction Treatment Centre and Therapeutic Community has received an unexpected donation courtesy of the North Central Local Government Association.

The funds were raised through an impromptu live auction at the recent NCLGA Convention in Smithers.

The Association went through a name change in 2009, having been formerly known as the North Central Municipal Association (NCMA). As a result there were a number of fabric banners that displayed the old name and were now outdated. Incoming President Mike Bernier and Convention MC Kevin Brown proceeded over the lively auction as delegates bid on the banners and an opportunity to take home a piece of nostalgia while  supporting the Baldy Hughes facility. The auction raised a total of $744.75.

NCLGA Executive Board members toured the Baldy Hughes Treatment Centre earlier in the year to learn about the services that the centre can provide to its residents.  “Addiction disorders know no boundaries and are something that all of our communities struggle with”, said NCLGA President Mike Bernier, “I am thrilled that we were able to contribute to this very worthy cause.”

“I am so encouraged by the interest shown by local government”, said Marshall Smith, Executive Director for the Baldy Hughes Addiction Treatment Centre. “I was honoured to do the tour for them, and of course it’s very rewarding for me that they were impressed enough with the tour that they chose us as beneficiary for these funds.”

It has been a tradition with the NCLGA to provide the outgoing President with a small gift in appreciation of their services to the Association. This year however, outgoing President Karen Goodings suggested that she would prefer a donation being made to a worthy cause in the region, rather than receiving a personal gift. She was very pleased to hear that a $50.00 donation had been made on her behalf to the Baldy Hughes Addiction Treatment Centre and Therapeutic Community.
