Prince GeBlack bear activity has been increasing this month in Prince George, with 75 black bear complaints since June 1, bringing this season's total to 215 complaints. Three more bears have been destroyed since last week, with a total of 7 bears having been destroyed around the city since April.

There have been a high number of bear sightings in the Hart region in the past week, including along Kelly Rd.

Just yesterday, Conservation Officers were  seen near the Alpine  Pub in the Hart ( the corner of S Kelly road and Vallencher).  The Conservation officers were seen to be  packing a shot gun.   Calls to the Conservation office have not been returned to  Opinion 250 so it is not known if  a bear was found or destroyed in that neighbourhood. Please take extra precautions in these areas, securing your garbage properly, taking down your bird feeders, and keeping your dogs on-leash when walking.

I don't know why so many people freak out when they see a black bear.....can't people just leave it alone.....if its a problem trap it and relocate it...whats the problem?
the problem is that they come back. relocate them 100kms, 200kms away, that bear will make its way back to the same street. kill that bear, another one will just take its place. clean up your garbage, pick your fruit. problem solved. get your neighbours to do the same.

In town here there has been moose attacks. Been any bear attacks?
The moose and bears were here first. We need to do the responsible thing when it comes to bears, remove any potential food sources. We have seen a lot more bears than usual in the fields north of the city this year. It is no wonder that in town sightings are on the increase. Like mikmak says, pick your fruit and control your household garbage and the bears won't be attracted to your yard in the first place.
metalman.
What bloody fruit. Do you dudes think that there is fruit on the trees in Prince George in June???? Get a grip. Also how the hell do you know whether or not people are controlling thier house hold garbage. Most people I know control theirs.

So we have no fruit, and the garbage is fairly well controlled. Why do we have the bears.

The bear population is increasing because their natural enemy **man** no longer hunts them for food or sport. Especially black bears. What this means is that as their population increases we get more and more around town. Back in the 50's and 60's there were not too many bears in town, and if they did show up they were shot. Usually they just hung around the dumps and scavenged, however they cannot even do that now because the landfills are fenced off.

Its a problem we created, and I doubt that we will do anything about it, except kill some of them and relocate from time to time.
Honey garlic pepperoni and garlic sausage is awesome.
