Majority would sign petition to unseat their Liberal MLA, poll finds

A proposal by anti-HST activists to recall Liberal MLAs has early support from more than 60 per cent of people living in Liberalheld ridings, a new Angus Reid public opinion poll has found. The poll found 45 per cent of people in Liberal ridings would "definitely" sign a petition to get rid of their MLA, and a further 17 per cent would "probably" sign such a petition.

"To have 62 per cent of people saying they would probably or definitely sign [a recall petition], it speaks to the complete disconnect the government has with a large chunk of its own base," Angus Reid research director Hamish Marshall said Wednesday. "It will come down, as these recall things always do, to individual organization and ground game in certain ridings, but it's still a staggeringly high number." He pointed out that of those who voted Liberal in 2009, 47 per cent said they would probably or definitely sign a petition to recall their MLA.

Coming less than a month before the July 1 implementation of the HST, the poll underscores the intensity of public anger the Liberals continue to face over the new tax.

It's Gordo's fault
A popular refrain woven inextricably into just about every comment by the serial posters on this site.
After doing some checking you may be right.
The Conference Board of Canada says the Olympic spinoffs and improved outlook in manufacturing and forestry will make BC the leader in economic growth in Canada.
According to Stats Canada the value of building permits during March 2010 was $881 Million, a 48% increase over March 2009.
Housing starts are up 120% over this period last year according to CMHC.
According to RBC, CIBC, TD, Scotiabank and Desjardins Group they project that BC will either lead or be in top three in job creation.
Stats Canada says BC created 22% of jobs in Canada.
Vancouver's economy expected to grow faster than any city in Canada.
55% of new mines in Canada are in BC.
And since everything is Gordo's fault
Then you must agree that the above is positively
Gordo's fault.
Is Gordo going to come clean on what he said and did at the Bilderberg conference?
Did he tell them how easy it is to dupe and lie to the voters?
Or how easy it is to ignore the tax payers as he shifts more tax burden on to them?
Maybe he was telling them how to give our rivers away while guaranteeing huge profits to the power producers?
Hmmmmm!
Where are we going and why are we trying to get there so fast? Is there any hope for us? Two thirds of the population is overweight and we complain about the medical system and its costs. Many pay no head to common sense and the rules of the road and yet we complain about insurance rates. We complain about today's kids and yet many parents spend no time with their kids and pass them on to various electronic and digital friends. We complain about taxes and want more services. We take no responsibility for anything, It's Gordos fault, the governments fault, the teachers fault, the other idiot drivers fault, my co-workers fault etc.
Canadians have the honor of owning the highest credit debt in the developed nations of $42,000 and we complain that we have no money.
We will vote for a government that promises us the most without asking them how they will pay for it. Opposition parties decry the closing of schools, cutbacks in funding for all manner of items. All the cutbacks they are against then that must mean they are for. And if they are for keeping all schools open, spending more money on education, health, roads, parks, seniors etc then how are they going to pay for it?
Look at the economies of Greece, Italy, Great Britain, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, France and the USA.
All economies that are unsustainable.
Let's keep up all the feeling of entitlements, no responsibility, more demands and we will all be going to our own
Big Fat Greek Funeral.
Hey RIP
you forgot Hungary and you may as well add Canada if we keep spending 42 Billion more than we have each year with the Conservatives... Why don't the Federal Liberals would get a new leader and hey where are the NDP provincially - time for a new leader there too.. Vander zalm has done all the work for them and they are capitalizing on it... Perhaps we need a new party here too!
Has the source of formaldehyde in the PG airshed been determined yet?

I'm pretty sure it'll fall back onto everyone driving their cars (as if).

Wait until people find out just how much MORE they WILL be paying in tax after the HST becomes operative July 1st.

Then the push for "Recall in the Fall" will really start moving! When it does, there'll be a long-overdue lesson there any future government had better learn quickly ~ we've had enough of governments balancing their books by unbalancing ours.

It's time for THEM to manage properly, and not keep making excuses that they need more taxes.

If they're unable to do so with the bookkeeping they're currently using, change the bookkeeping. To a system that properly REFLECTS the FACTS.

When we're all contributing half our annual incomes to government now, on average, yet they still can't deliver the services we're paying for without steadily increasing debt, the fault is THEIRS, not ours. Time they woke up and did the job we're overpaying them to do.
Happy Beautiful Friday All!

Remember when Princess Diana died? Michael Jackson died? The Twin towers were brought down? That was all that was on EVERY news channel for months. Now I ask you all this....Why is there hardly any videos, pictures or substantial news about the Gulf Oil Spill? Try and get updates anywhere and you will see what I am talking about. 40,000 barrels a day spewing in the ocean and barely any news about it. The ocean is ONE huge body of water. Man has put names to different parts of it but reality is it is ONE body of water with no borders separating it anywhere. Any where there is oil, it is dying. Louisiana's governor said that in their marshes there is nothing left alive.

I see a media blackout because.... and this is only my opinion. No one has said it but the ocean is in big trouble and the powers that be know it. Some scientists are already speaking out saying that there will be damage like no other. An oil tycoon stated that the relief well will take way longer than August to complete. He even went so far as to say that he estimated November, December if that.

They are trying to defuse panic which will ultimately come because of this. Eventually all those people losing their livelihoods and having to look at the destruction will get angry. Eventually people all over the world will realise how big this WILL get. If that oil flows for the estimated 5 months we are ALL in big trouble.

I am having trouble with the fact that no one seems worried about this. It seems like a case of "it is not in our back yard" or "out of sight, out of mind". Remember, ANYWHERE the oil is ...it is dying and will be dead for decades. Just type in Google "Exxon Valdez 20 years later" and you will see what is in store.

This needs everyones prayers.

I am really (expletive starts with F) angry about the attack on a 10 year old at the park. What the hell has happened. We cant go anywhere anymore without running the risk of confrontations. I have an 11 year old son who I of course took to the washroom when he was little and now it seems I still have to for fear of young thugs attacking him for a few quarters. I have a 15 year old also. Because he's bigger what would thugs do to him? And to top it off I would go to jail for protecting my children. You try to teach and instill independance as they grow but instead you have to follow, watch every move and everyone around them like you were the CIA. The kids cant even go walking or ride there bike in this city without the risk of being accosted and there bikes maybe getting stolen or worse. No use running from it as its everywhere. I am so sick of this. When I was a kid we could roam for hours. What happened.
Multiple Sclerosis is an auto-immune disease with few treatments avauilable. Recently Dr. Zamboni of Italy discovered blocked veins in MS patients. When treated with simple angioplasty the results were miracuulous. It is not a cure but is hope!
This procedure is $1500 in Canada but unavailable to those suffering from the disease. Anyone with CCSVI that doesn't have MS would receive treatment.
The MS Society, nuerologists etc are in a turf war so we are travelling overseas for $25,000 to have it done.
Government wake up and show some compassion!!
biojuice7, I don't think that the resistance of neurologists to this is a matter of a turf war. My dad is a neurologist, now retired, whose specialty is diseases of the myelin, including multiple sclerosis. When I asked him about this, he said that there's no basis for it. All there is are a few cases in which patients who received angioplasty got better, but there's no evidence that the angioplasty caused the improvement. MS is a disease with a highly variable course - some people get it and then show no deterioration for decades, others decline and die over a few years, and sometimes they improve for no discernible reason. That makes it hard to tell whether a proposed treatment is effective without controlled studies. In the absence both of real evidence that angioplasty is effective and of any theoretical basis for a relationship between blocked arteries and MS, there's no good reason to jump on this bandwagon.
WE AS CANADIANS HAVE TAKE BACK OUR GOVT !!SOMETHING VERY WRONG IS GOING ON !LEGAL CRIMINALS !! ENOUGH SAID
Will HST be charged on vehicle fuel? With the upcoming increase in the carbon tax coupled with HST what price will gas be by the end of summer?
ATTENTION PEDAL BIKE RIDERS, you want all the same uses of the roads as cars and you got your own lanes SO how about obeying all the rules of the road, yes that means when you come to a 4 way stop you need to stop like everyone else and WAIT your turn to proceed!!! You need to stop at the lights if it RED!!! you need to use your hand signals so WE in CARS know what the !#$%@$^ you are doing!!! WE CAN NOT READ YOUR MINDS!!!!(as simple as some of them seem to be!!!) and THEN finger us and get belligerent when we honk at you because we have just about run you over because YOU THE BIKE RIDER HAS NOT SIGNALLED or STOPPED AT A 4 WAY OR A RED LIGHT!!!
Lekstrom resigns over HST!
I guess Gordo never saw that coming - a politician with principles!
I think that the progression of MS is associated to what the sufferer eats and drinks, or doesn't eat & drink. I have heard of MS sufferers who improved when put on a gluten free diet, anecdotal evidence to be sure, but there might be something to it, same as the angioplasty angle.
metalman.
vocer I too remember the days when kids could walk to school and spend every daylight hour on the weekend outside somewhere...what the hell happened??
Im thinking vigulante justice to protect the children from crap they shouldnt have to deal with
I want the BIG NEEDLE VAN to stop driving around my area, it makes me sick I am paying for it, I think its the Citys plan to to keep the Citys proplems in one area. The City pushed the Hookers into our area and now they are trying to clean up the Downtown and pushing more proplems up the HILL, to Queensway St. and area.Neighbours we are being screwed again.
Does anyone else find it curious how quiet it is in relation to the airport hanger fire and the missing individual. No remains where found. The scientist who did the search said if he was in the building there would have been remains. Does anyone out there have some information? The family did not want his picture released and the media and police complied. I find that unusual in a case like this. Some political markers called in maybe?
While rummaging through my junk in my garage, I came across a "Recall Ramsay" bumper sticker. What am I bid? Oh yeah, he ain't in politics anymore and he didn't even get recalled. The government is NOT the people. Remember that.
Difference between Chretien and Harper? Chretien was able to put on a G7 conference for less than $25 million. Emperor Harper and his fiscal conservatives (not) will spend over a billion of our taxpayers money for this upcoming meeting.

http://www.nytimes.com/1995/06/15/world/halifax-journal-on-a-paved-parking-lot-they-put-up-a-paradise.html
After getting rid of the Hookers in our area they seem to comming back ,I wonder why ?? its not hard to figure out. The New Homeless Shelter on Queensway better not be houseing them. I had a friend a couple of years ago, that was hit by a truck in the intersectiion of Queensway and 17th, after getting off work at the Motel, she died a slow painful death in the Hospital, she left two children. All because some guy wanted to get his rocks off and was in a hurry. Neighbours phone in the plate no. of the Johns you see picking up Hookers, it looks like we have to start fighting again. Bleeding Hearts you have idea what its like to live with this around you. We want to feel safe in our area, just like you.
Herbester did you actually read the link that you posted?? and I quote:

"Also to check costs, which are running less than the $25 million Canada spent on its last go-around, in 1988 in Toronto"

And that is not even indexed to inflation!!!!
Accounting for inflation, Harper would need to spend $41 million just match Cretins spending.
Harper did a great job in in matching Chretien- instead of $41 million (adjusted for inflation) he will spend over $1000 million -happy now?
