Happy Friday to all...

May you have a great weekend!
I'll second the great weekend thought... but more importantly... when is Obama going to nuke that runaway BP well?

6-weeks ago I said this would be the only option to minimize the damage... 8-weeks ago I couldn't fathom ever advocating any use of nuclear weapons, not even for testing. Nuclear weapons are pure evil... I've got video's showing every nuclear blast ever caught on camera... I've read the nuclear bible 'On Thermonuclear War' by Herman Kahn, a book that was banned for nearly 40-years because it is too traumatic for most people to read... it sticks with you for weeks. Nuclear weapons are evil and it would be great if the world would get rid of them all... but the facts are it is our only hope right now to stop horrific damage to our world.

The benzine in the gulf right now is starting to mix with the atmosphere and once that happens it has potential to kill over wide areas. Benzine doesn't need to be inhaled as it enters the body through absorption through the skin. The mud shot proved that the well casing is compromised and that the likelihood of a relief well stopping this is next to nil. Long before a relief well is in place the weight of the blow out preventor will collapse the well head and we will be looking at potentially a half million barrels a day... we already know the casing is compromised and its only a matter of time before serious sea floor venting takes place.

The oil projections show it covering the entire east coast of the United States, most of the Atlantic, and heavy concentrations along the West coast of Europe within the next 8-weeks. The toxic effect which could make huge areas hundreds if not thousands of miles inland unsafe for human populations. Most of the globes West European population is now under a sever risk of massive kill off... to say nothing of the dead zone in the ocean this will create and the implications for global oxygen levels.

We have nothing to lose at this point and I feel now the only option left is to drop a nuke down one of the relief well holes to collapse the well and seal it with glass. Failure to take the leadership to do this at this point in time I think will have catastrophic consequences for the world as we knew it. I find it distressing that 50+ days later and they can't even get a proper response to the clean up on shore organized, much less address the root problem... its almost like this is what BP and their owners are wanting? They couldn't have picked a more perfect location for this kind of disaster for maximum damage to the global ecosystem to say nothing of the global super power.

I don't think we have any leadership in this world anymore... that's how it appears anyways.
Wonder when the Liberal Gov't is going to taken down the "Project Completed", signs like the ones at Domano, Tyner, and highway 16 west. That particular project has been completed for 7 or 8 months now.

Good article in the Citizen on the additional costs on items now exempt from PST that will take place July 1/10 when the HST comes into effect. Sure going to take a bite out of the consumer's pocket. I would think a lot more shopping trips to Alberta are going to take place especially in border communities.
I wonder how many of these cleanup folks showed up there in thier V eights? like these hummers and all these other new POS they are cranking out these days. Its payback time and this thing aint going to stop any time soon. After this one maybe next time it can be shell or mobil. Looks like the only way to break these corporate pigs. Hopefully BP will have no money left and these pensioners in UK can starve. Aparently the crooks running BP use thuer pensions to keep thier corrupt operations running. Well NO MORE. Hope it happens to the rest of these companies now. The greed from thier millions made every day at our expense is over. Hope another companny has one just like it soon. Maybe up in artic next time might just shut er down fer good.
Yes, let's pray that all oil companies shut down, because we really want to pay more money for groceries, clothing and everything else in life.
Question. Are we being bamboozled by the Citys Community Energy Plan.

Answer. You bet we are.

This plan if being financed by $5 Million from the Municipal Infrastructure Fund and $3.5 Million from the Gas Tax Fund. The City will borrow $3.5 Million from the Municipal Lending Authority and pay it back plus interest with (guess what) future moneys from the Gas Tax Fund.

Whats wrong with this picture??? Well for one thing the gas tax money was paid by us at the pumps and returned by the Federal Government. This money could be spent on Water, Sewer,Green Energy, Garbage Disposal Systems, and last but certainly not least ROADS AND BRIDGES.

The City arbitrarily choose the Community Energy System. (No discussion with the people of Prince George about the other options) They are now in the process of convincing us that this is a good deal for the City and reduces Vehicle emmissions and fine air particulates, however their projections are less than scientific.

1. The City states that the Energy System to be built at Lakeland Mills will reduce the need to truck 300 truck loads of bio mass from the millsite to the Pulp Mills and therefore will reduce vehicle emmissions by a total of 70 tonnes per year. What they dont say is whether the pulp mills will have to source this reduction in biomass from other sources and therefore purchase 300 truckloads from somewhere else, or burn more natural gas, or burn more diesel. So unless we have the answer to that, we have to assume that there would be no reductions in vehicle emmissions in the City overall.

2. The City will purchase the heated water from Lakeland Mills pipe it under the CN Tracks (10ft deep) and run piping to the various City owned buildings in the downtown area. They imply that the Coast Inn of the North, and the Ramada, will probably come on stream, however there is no committment from these companies.

3. The City states that this system will give them a revenue stream other than from taxes, however we know that if it comes from other levels of Government then its still taxes, so the only actual revenue increase that may be available at this time is from uncommited private business.

4. The City is paying for the plant at Lakeland, however they are not specific at to the costs for refitting the buildings, heat exchangers, etc; This will be a significant cost, and do doubt tax;payers again will have to pick it up.

5. A number of years ago there was an issue with soil contamination when IPG bought the CN building on first Avenue. We never did hear how this problem was solved, however you can rest assured that the CN Property will probably have diesel and oil contamination after 90 years of use. Who is responsible for the removal and disposal of the contaminated soil and at what cost??

6. When the City makes a determination as the the number of tonnes of fine particulate reduction, is the formula based on what Lakeland releases into the air now, and what it will release after the project is completed, along with the addition of the new precipatator. What is the amount of actual particulate release from burning this biomass at Lakeland as opposed to burning it at the pulpmills. I suspect that it is the same, and therefore burning it at Lakeland has no actual benefit in that area.

7. This leaves us with an energy system that is being built for no other reason than to use water heat versus natural gas, and reducing the emmissions from natural gas by using water. That in itself may have some merit, however considering that these emmissions are only a problem during winter months, say from October to April (7 Months) one would think that we could find a better way to do this.

8. Was any consideration given to using electricity to heat these buildings and therefore reduce the emissions entirely. I suspect that we could have all the buldings on Hydro with out a major cash outlay such as we are now facing. I doubt if they even looked at that option.

9. The reverse onus petition to force this issue to a referendum begins to-day. The forms are available at City Hall (as usual on the 5th floor behind a potting plant) for anyone who is opposed to this plan to sign. This petition is open to eligible voters, you dont have to be registered. Total number of signatures required is 5236 which is 10% of the eligible voters in the Prince George area.

10. The City requires that the petitions be returned to them on July 21st. So it is almost impossible to get the required number of signatures, which of course works in the Citys favour.

11. The only way to get the required number of signatures if for every able bodied person who opposes this project and waste of taxpayers money to get off their butts and go to City Hall and sign this ;petition. There will be no one coming to your door for your signature on this one.

12. If you do not want to stop this waste of money then by all means let the City go ahead with it, and spend money that culd be spent on roads, paving, sewer, garbage, etc; but dont bitch about the roads anymore, because when you had a chance to do something, you chose to sit on your hands.

Have a nice day.
Anyone in PG serve "Banoffee Pie"
Would love to try it-too lazy to make self.
Lots of street water drains covered with garbage and dead grass and leifs-where are the street cleaners/sweepers ?
I came across I cool website http://compete.com that lets you track the traffic at various websites. It is interesting to see that the traffic at the PG Citizen's site is about 10% of what it used to be before they started asking people to pay. 250 is holding steady.
Make that 5%, I wonder if the people who are paying for link ads on the Citizen's website know this. The person who made this decision better start looking for a new job.

Mattyc says, "Hopefully BP will have no money left and these pensioners in UK can starve."

I presume he thinks BP is UK owned. It ain't so. The national ownership is:

UK 40%
US 39%
EU 10%
Other 11%

That is 60% non UK, or 61% non US. However you express it, the ownership is almost as American as English.

Using a company name to determine ownership is foolish. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) for instance is mostly owned by Scots investors.
Scots invest in other than their under mattress savings accounts?????

Why are your outside lights on 24/7 ?
What a waste of energy.
Well Pal you gave us a lot of good information but it will probably fall on deaf ears.. People appear not to be concerned about their taxes or how the money is spent . Maybe the people from the Miller Addition and where does PACHA stand on this issue. It may sound great from a pollution aspect but it will add more to the bowl area.

The pulp mills used precipitator for years as a means to cleanup the air quality but how much do they actually remove in pollution is anther question. Lafarge Cement used them for years but have long ago remove them from their plants and all their huge stacks have gone.

This entire project is a complete farce. If I recall correctly Mr Radloff took on this make work project in preparation for his retirement. The feeding at the trough never stops.

I hope that you sent a copy of this post to the Mayor and Council. I did write to them about the project recently but will probably only get e response from the new Spin Dr. they have now employed.
Cheers
Shame on those R.C.M.P for murdering Robert Dekanski and the top brass for trying to cover this all up.

Palopu for Mayor, November 2011.

Nice to read that PGs mosque is proceeding on cue. Sure hope the members appreciate and remember that this mosque is being built by infidels. Hey, it's in the Koran.
It is god to see so many people enjoying the Nechako river along Foothills Blvd. But could you at least take your empty beer cases and other garbage home with you! I've seen too many people openly throwing their beer cases into the ditch...
There should be a park at Foothills bridge.. probably the busiest location in town on a hot day... why not have garbage cans there and some proper parking?
Pal, I think the heating system is already in place. Lakeland already produces 3 million BTU of heat, but only requires something like 800,000 for their own needs. I think the new plan is to tie into their existing system, rather than built a new one?
I just hope the new mosque isn't going to be making a bunch of noise pollution in the neighborhood. I grew up across the street and I'm sure the neighbors wouldn't like that when bbq'ing pork on a night like tonight....
Mattyc, I think Osama Bin Laden is hoping for the same thing... or any other rouge with an axe to grind with the Americans. Whats to stop crazy Kim from putting a mini sub on a crate sent to Panama by the Chinese and used to attach remote explosives to the well heads of some of the other 2000+ wells in the gulf just like BP's current well out of control. Now that this vulnerability is exposed you can bet it fits into any war planning going forward for rouges around the world. Lets hope not, but you have to know they are looking at the same thing we are and its got to give them idea's. I don't think oil is worth that cost... how long Canada will play the international markets game with our own supply is the real question in light of peak oil.
Interesting link Kolberg... I wonder if it would be a good idea to have independent news operators like Opinion250 working together more... maybe once a week, or even every day, provide a link to a story on other associated independent web sites thereby increasing the potential viewership of all involved... that way a person can go to one site they regularly attend and get access to the stories being discussed on the others? Kind of an independent associates web linking section like the way the CBC is currently linked... if all the independents were on line linking to each other for mutual support then I bet they could really challenge the MSM for viewership that way....
