Transportation Minister Shirley Bond, Beaverly Fire Chief Bruce Perrin and Area C Director Lara Beckett cut the ribbon at the new Beaverly fire hall. Prince George B.C. - The new Beaverly Fire Hall is now officially open. Construction of the $900,000 new hall was made possible with $400,000 in federal and provincial funding from the Towns for Tomorrow program, a five-year, $71-million program that helps smaller communities and regional districts with infrastructure projects. The remaining amount came from the fire department’s capital reserve fund and revenue earned when the department’s fire equipment was used during the 2003 wildfires. “It’s exciting to see all levels of government come together to support a project that will have a significant impact on the community and the safety of the residents who live there,” says Dick Harris, M.P. for Cariboo-Prince George. “Fire protection and rescue services for rural residents are essential. I am very glad that through the Towns for Tomorrow program we were able to partner in the funding for this new fire rescue hall,” says Shirley Bond, MLA Prince George–Valemount, “I know how badly needed a new facility was and am very pleased to see that the hard work and planning done by so many people has resulted in this fantastic new fire hall.” Formerly, the Beaverly area was serviced by a 24 year old fire hall which provided limited room for the department’s expanding fleet and equipment, and its volunteers. The new Beaverly Fire Rescue facility is 10,000 square feet that can house the required emergency vehicles, a training/meeting room, offices, storage areas and a much-needed community meeting area. “The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is thrilled to have this new hall. The new Beaverly Fire Rescue Hall is not only home to the fire rescue service, but it will also serve as a back-up Emergency Operations Centre for the Regional District,” says Lara Beckett, Electoral Area C Director for the Regional District. “After years of planning and a lot of hard work by our dedicated volunteers and the Regional District, we are thrilled to be moving into the new fire hall,” says Chief Bruce Perrin. “Thanks to the financial assistance provided by the Towns for Tomorrow program, this dream has become a reality four years sooner than originally anticipated for ourvolunteers and residents.” The public is welcome to tour the new hall this Sunday for a special community Father’s Day pancake breakfast starting at 10:00 am.
