Prince George, B.C. – City Council for the City of Prince George will hold it’s regular meeting this evening, and it will be a busy one.
Council will receive the annual report, a move that was put over from the last meeting. Council is also expected to give approval to the draft report from the myPG project which will set the stage for the development of an implementation plan.
Council will be asked to deal with some financial issues including, approving borrowing $4 million dollars for the Downtown District Energy System and awarding the Boundary road Construction project to WIC at a cost of $18.72 million dollars, and to spend a maximum $16 thousand dollars as half the cost of the Downtown flower basket campaign.
Cottonwood Island Park is the subject of two items on the agenda. One calls for the approval to build new bridges to replace those destroyed during the   ice jams, the other item calls for a replica of one of the spans of the Cameron Street bridge to be the façade for one of the bridges.

I don't know why the information from Prince George is not on the latest "Vancouver Sun's Public Sector Salaries Data Base", but I think the City should contact the Vancouver Sun and make sure our information is included.

Once the inevitable downward spiral in our debt clogged economy starts and the "big fight over money" begins, I think one of the first things on the taxpayers' hit list will be to bring most of the salaries (and the pensions which go with them) on this data base down to reality.

I suggest everyone take a quick look at this data base, especially those folks who are making minimum wage in this province.

"B.C.'s minimum wage has been frozen at $8 an hour for the past eight years, the lowest level in Canada."

The following is the link to the latest Vancouver Sun's Public Sector Salaries Data Base.

Taking a look at the public service website, I see the City of Prince George is not listed. The city must be too embarassed to show us what city employees make after all of tax increases.

The City is trying to cut back, so it takes a bit longer to report. There are only thirty communities on there. None further north or east than Kamloops.

I think the Sun does not realize how big the province actually is. LOL

Following the links provided by Charles, I have a question; What in the heck is the "BC Investment Management Corp' ?
And why are we paying some guy named Doug over one million dollars per year to be the chief? According the the same report, it is also very profitable to be a vice president of this corp. to the tune of over half a million dollars per year. What do these people accomplish in a year to earn that kind of a salary? I'll bet they do not work as hard as most people do.
metalman.
enjoy... http://www.bcimc.com

"The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) provides funds management services for public bodies and publicly administered trust funds. Public sector pension plans constitute the largest client group and account for 74.1 percent of the assets under bcIMC's administration.

As one of the largest institutional investors in the country, bcIMC offers its public sector trust clients a wide range of investment services and options."
Look at their annual report. $74.5 billion in assets. $23 billion in international investments. Don't trust their money in investing it in BC, Western Canada, Canada...??

Of course he can always go to the private sector and try for a job at Telus.

president = $6.8million
first exec vice pres = $2.3million
second exec vice president = $2.1million
president telus quebec = 2.0million
cfo = $1.7million

They made $1 billion in profits ....
Excellent article in the Citizen today by Todd Whitcombe about burning carbon based fuels of which wood is one of them.
Natural gas, or methane is the cleanest fuel we have readily available yet PG persists in promoting the burning of wood for a community energy system. Not only is this a step backwards in time but is economic suicide. Only PG would consider a project with a 30 or 40 year payback. What happens in spring and summer months when heat isn't required? Spending 15 million dollars to heat a few buildings downtown is sure folly. You can also bet there will be a backup gas fired system in place should the wood fired plant have an outage in the dead of winter.
Another waste of taxpayer money by an out of tune council.
Resident. The City is already on record stating that they will keep the natural gas system for a back=up. I agree that this is the dumbest idea yet to come out of City Hall, and there is no shortage of dumb ideas.

Hopefully people will get off their butts and sign the reverse onus petition at City Hall to force this issue to a referendum. Juy 21st is the drop dead date, after that they have free sailing to screw us once again.
"What happens in spring and summer months when heat isn't required?"

The energy goes towards cooling instead of heating, like any water system in place in commercial buildings.

Gus.
A tube and shell heat exchanger is somewhat different in operation than a evapourative refrigeration system. Several sawmills in the area use tube and shell heat exchangers with thermal oil as a heat source at a temperature of 230 - 250 C heating glycol for building heat and I have yet to see anyone operate the heating system in spring and summer months. Regardless of the method of operation it is still a waste a taxpayer money.
Todd Whitcombe has never written a decent in his life. Its pretty clear from reading his junk he'll say just about anything for a soup and a sandwich. Burn methane like he says (that's natural gas by the way) but it will put out "toxic" CO2. Hit up back issues of the Citizen for all his quack science rants about CO2. It seems he's now getting his cheques from a gas company and not Al Gore anymore and its reflected in his writing. He's an embarrassment to our local paper.
