Prince George, B.C. – The Greer Creek fire, southwest of Vanderhoof, is now 5,000 hectares in size and an evacuation alert remains in effect.

The regional District of Bulkley Nechako has issued an evacuation alert for the area from the 18.5 km mark of Kenny Dam Road south to Greer Creek, including Corkscrew Road, Edwards Road, York Drive, Surprise Drive and Szanz Drive, Greer Valley Road, Brophy Road, and the Kluskus Forest Service Road.

For more information on the evacuation alert, contact: Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, 250-692-3195

There are now 100 firefighters on scene trying to bring the blaze under control. In addition there are air tankers, 6 helicopters and 26 pieces of heavy equipment in use.

The fire has spread rapidly because of high winds and the fact there is so much dead standing beetle kill in this area. “There had been some logging in the area, so there was some slash on the ground in addition to standing grey   fuels” says information officer Joyce Poulin.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Looks like the wind had died down when that was taken. That would take on spreading factor away from the fire if that persists.

The AQHI is now at 7. I have never seen it that high here.

The Plaza 400 hourly PM10 was at 116 at 8am and was at 95 at 10am.

The 24 hour average is now almost 50.

WOrse is the PM2.5 at 91 at 8am and the 24 hour average is now 33.5 which is above the 25 threshold.

I see no advisory being called yet. Should have been called yesterday in my opinion. The advisory system is totally useless!!!!
Look at gladstone school .... both are off the charts!!!!
Must be that wood stove causing all this. Better get the fresh air fairies out there.
If you need an advisory to tell you the air is bad... Really?
