Prince George, B.C.- There is another wild fire in the Prince George region, this one to the east, south of Purden Mountain at Tsus Creek.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by lightning and is currently 6 hectares in size. There are 26 firefighters and one air tanker attacking this blaze.

Crews are working on the site today to create containment lines.

Meantime, at the Greer Creek fire southwest of Vanderhoof, crews and machinery have completed construction of fire guard around the fire’s perimeter.  Crews are now  reinforcing these guards by burning off fuel between the containment line and the fire. While temperatures and humidity remain favourable, gusty winds this afternoon may pose challenges to crews. The blaze , estimated to be 6,100 hectares, is now 40% contained.

There are 251 personnel dealing with this fire. That number  includes 124 firefighters, helicopter and equipment operators, medical responders, and incident command specialists

A public information meeting regarding the Greer Creek wildfire is being held tonight from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Friendship Centre on 219 E. Victoria Street in Vanderhoof, BC.

The meeting is open to the public free of charge and staff from various responding agencies will be available to answer questions and address concerns.
