Mayor Dan Rogers,  Pacific BioEnergy  GM Tim Knoop and  Bid Committee Co-Chair Les Waldie
Prince George, B.C.- When the 2015 Winter Games selection committee visits Prince George August 9th, prepare to wave a flag.

Pacific Bioenergy has donated $3400 dollars to the purchase of two thousand regular flags and 500 car flags that will be distributed throughout the community to show the selection committee that Prince George supports this bid.

Pacific BioEnergy is the first corporate sponsor of the bid for the 2015 games, a sponsorship General Manager Tim Knoop says will pay off “We believe that by hosting the Winter Games, Prince George will be the focus of national media attention and it will show the rest of the country that Prince George is the centre for bioenergy production.” Knoop says he also believes the economic spin offs for the community will be very beneficial to Prince George and the region.

Mayor Dan Rogers says winning the bid won’t be easy “We know we are a bit of an underdog against the communities of Kamloops and Kelowna, but we believe we are winter and the games belong here.”

Bid Committee Co-Chair, Les Waldie says the committee has some momentum now with about 50 volunteers but there will need to be a community show of support for the games if the City it to secure the right to host the event.

The Games would bring 3700 athletes, and thousands of visitors to the area for the duration of the games.

Good for them. Nice to see the coorporations stepping up to the podium.
We cant afford the games... We are seeing nothing but tax increases from our incompetant city council.. How much will these bunch of clowns raise our taxes to pay for this fiasco..

Let us all go 2 years with NO tax increases, cutting all the waste at city hall and sell all the useless property the city has purchased and then maybe look at hosting a event.

But as long as city hall keeps raising my taxes at every turn it shows me they are lousy with money..it shows to me we cant afford to host anything at all...
Keep spending!!! I guess 111 million dollar debt this city has is not enough yet.
I was always under the impression that Dan rogers did not like to spend!
For BETTER Fiscal Management

Nothing can be accomplished unless there is a clear vision and the determination to get it done. We also need to realize that there is not a bottomless pit of tax dollars available to implement our priorities. Dan will establish clear guidelines to get taxes and spending under control. Dan will make sure all policies are respectful of seniors and others on fixed and low incomes. In addition to managing our budget we can’t escape the need to make continual progress on reducing the City’s debt load. We also need to increase the efficiency of operations to reduce costs and ensure special interest groups aren’t getting breaks at the expense of the average homeowner.

It will be great to hold the winter games here. I can't wait to take the $5.00 bus rides as well in 2015!
Spending is way out of control for this council. New lawn at city hall when the old one was 8 months old. Did they find a dandelion in it? 6 bucks to dump a few boards at the transfer station.? guess I'll buy a wood stove and get rid of them myself in the winter. How many millions over 10 years was this automated garbage thing going to save us? Another Kinsley dream while studying snow removal in Japan. These people have to start being accountable for poor judgement. Lets threaten to dethrone Dan and all councillors who want these games. We are to complacent in this country and this city. Start a new chant in town "dethrone Dan" I suspected it was a mistake when I stood in the voting booth.
Thousands of visitors to Prince George to watch the games. I guess they will be coming from the lower mainland, Victoria, Kamloops, Okanogan, etc; Im sure that they all love to drive in the middle of winter at -30 or -40.

Once here they can spend a week in the hotels, drive out to Purden, or Otway, and generally stand around and freeze their asses off. Then another 500 miles on winter roads to go back home.

On second thought maybe they will just stay home, and say to hell with it, and watch on TV. If so then we will not make any more money than we would on a normal week in February, with the exception of the atheletes and their managers.
The Games would be the best thing to ever happen to PG.
I'm proud to support the bid and help our community grow!
Mayors and alderpooples pay should be tied to taxflation - the more taxes go up the more their pay goes down.
realitycheck. I guess the games were the best thing that ever happened to the following Citys that hosted the Winter Games.

1967 Quebec City
1971 Saskatoon Sask
1975 Lethbridge Ab
1979 Brandon Manitoba
1983 Saguenay/Lac Saint-Jean Que.
1987 Sydney Nova Scotia
1991 Charlottetown PEI
1995 Grande Prairie AB
1999 Corner Brook Newfoundland
2003 Bathurst/Campbellton NB
2007 Whitehorse Yukon
2011 Halifax NS.

I doubt if anyone has heard a bloody thing about these Cities and the fact that they have hosted the Winter Olympics. This is a bunch of BS. How many people are going to go to Halifax NS next year from this area to watch the games. None would be a pretty close answer.

I suspect that none of the Cities have grown as a result of the Winter Games.

Time to quit fooling ourselves, there are no long term benefits from these games, however there usually is long term debt.
Palopu ... You know as well as I do that there is no long term benefit from doing anything.

There is, however, a long term benefit from doing nothing.

So keep on doing nothing, Palopu, and we will all continue to benefit.
Hosting winter games IS doing nothing at a big cost. Here we go giving so called dignitaries a free ride on our dollars. What the hell is so important about catapulting 10 athletes into millionaire status; why not catapult 10 truck drivers or 10 plumbers? This whole sports thing is ludicrous and the cost is exhorbitant foolishness.
Well, let me try to explain it this way supertech.

The typical athlete, truck driver and plumber exists and works in our "free" enterprise system.

The general public in our "free" enterprise system seems to value some individual athletes far more than any individual truck driver or plumber. As a result, a handful of athletes in a region of a few million people will generate a far greater income and job spin offs for that community than the same number of plumbers or truck drivers ever will.

On top of that, truckers and plumbers will be among the winners of those spin off jobs.

Subisdizing truckers to attend trucking rodeos just does not achieve the same economic impact.

Investing in potential top athletic "material" is as important as investing to encourage industries and businesses to settle in a community.
Canada's Winter Games are one step below the Olympic Winter Games.

These are the top athletes in our country competing at this event.

I saw a great sign at the Mohawk.

"Say nothing
Do nothing
Be nothing"

Let's get behind this and make it happen.
Gus. If BS was music you would be a brass band.

The number of top level Canadian atheletes can be counted on one hand. The number in Prince George could be counted on one finger.

The next time your sewer backs up call an athelete. Have your 2 bit atheletes haul your food from Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and California to Prince George. You will starve to death waiting for it to arrive.

My point that the Canada Winter Games were held at the 11 Canadian cities was to show that very few people from this region even knew where or when they were being held, and of course very few people from here actually attended.

The same thing will apply in reverse, very few people will come from other areas to Prince George to see these games. All you will get will be the atheletes, their managers, some camp followers, and some local people.

This is the same BS that we get from the City telling us we should ride the bus while they drive their cars. Let them lead by example or quit yapping.

Most people on these posts cant tell us diddly squat about the Winter Games for the simple reason they dont know anything about them.

Hitch a ride out of town to the Halifax games in 2011, on a Wide Body Cargo or Passenger jet. Oh: sorry, we dont have any wide body Cargo or Passenger Jets.
