Bears and Bird Feeders A Bad Combo

Prince George, B.C. - The Northern Bear Awareness society says there have been 286 black bear complaints in Prince George with 9 bears destroyed since the beginning of bear season.
More than half of those complaints were made in the last three weeks.
Grizzly bear numbers remain low, with only 10 complaints and 1 destroyed since April.
The society continues to advise people to remove bird feeders from their back yards for the summer, saying there is plenty of food available for birds.  The feeders are very attractive to bears who are looking for a quick meal fix.

I agree and got rid of my back yard bird feeder (while actually they destroyed it)... now I only have one on my top balcony where they can't get to it.

Ironically seen the biggest black bear I ever saw today in Mackenzie. The biggest previously was about an 800 pound black bear the size of a small car I came across walking the dog out at Huble Homestead a few years back. This one however that I spotted today was nearly twice that size... looked like the size of an SUV probably at least 1200 pounds. I thought only grizzlies got that big, but it was definitely a black bear. It must be 50-years old to get that big and feed on horses or something. Normally not scared of black bears, but that thing makes me think twice about them for sure.
Those bears are going to have to learn to stay in their own space. I was here first.

The largest Blackbear ever recorded in the wild was a world record 880lb brute shot in the states in 1998.

1200lbs...ya right.

Blackbears live up to 30 yrs in captivity but is much shorter in the wild.
