66 Year old Ronald Keith Hill has been sentenced to a conditional sentence of 2 years less a day for the two counts of dangerous driving causing death and 6 months conditional sentence for the count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm plus a year of probation in the deadly driving accident that claimed the lives of a Prince George couple.
Kimberley St. Peter and her husband Kevin died when their Cavalier was hit by a truck driven by Ronald Keith Hill, and as a result was pushed into the path of on coming traffic. The driver of the vehicle in that on coming lane suffered serious injuries.
In handing down sentence, Judge Dan Weatherly noted Mr. Hill is regarded as a mentor to many, a gentle man, and by all accounts the events of that tragic day were totally out of character. Judge Weatherly says the perameters for a conditional sentence apply because Mr. Hill is not likely to reoffend, and is deeply and genuinely remorseful. "Often the families of the victims hope the Court can somehow take away their pain, the Court cannot do that." said Judge Weatherly, as he outlined the case law which supported his choice of sentence.
Mr. Hill faces a curfew from 9 at night to 7 a.m. except Thursday and Friday when he works until 9p.m. He is not allowed to drink, and his drivers licence has been revoked for 5 years. He must complete 100 hours of community service by December 31st of this year, and another 100 hours of community service by August of next year.
