Williams Lake, B.C.  – A 53 year old  Quesnel man is dead following a boating accident above where the Cariboo River flows into the Quesnel River.

Information to Opinion250 says the man had four other people in his boat when they hit a pressure wave going through some rapids on the river on  Saturday. The man attempted to turn the boat around and head back down stream when they were hit by another wave, throwing all of the occupants in the boat into the river.

The five had been attempting to bail the water out of the boat at the time the second wave hit. Four of the people on board made it to shore. The driver of the boat,  was missing when the other four  reached the shore.

One of the boaters said that a life jacket was seen floating on the surface some distance down from where the wave hit. It is thought that the operator of the boat may have hit his head on the  windshield when the second wave hitm the boat.

A search and rescue party recovered the man’s body about five to seven kilometres downstream of the accident.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Paddled there. Always wondered how useful jetboats were when they were full of water. Shame.
Hey Geek, what rock did you come out from under? Idiot!!!

RIP Bro! Condolences to family and friends.
It all happens in a second. Boom, and your in that situation.

My condolances to the family.
Agreed these kinds of things happen often out of shear bad luck and timing. We've all had close calls I'm sure and walked away from them. I think a persons condolence is all that can really be said in these circumstances.
i had the pleasure of working with this great individual he was very professional and i am sure that he did his best to handle the situation my prayers go out to his family and my fellow search and rescue members who at this time are feeling very sad as i do :(
It can happen so fast. The only way to avoid it happening is to not go on the river, and for some of us, that is not an option. Godspeed.
metalman.
53 is still young, my condolences to the family.
I don't think age matters when you unexpectedly lose a loved one. It's always hard.

The article mentioned a life jacket but did not say if the boater was wearing it. Was that the case or was he wearing it but was the river so rough that it didn't save him? Are there special life jackets for rivers vs the basic lake pfds? Rivers always scare the heck out of me....logs, roots, whirlpools.
This was a man with more experience on the river than anyone i have ever known! I trusted him with my life and have witnesed his great love of the river first hand. He will be missed by many! I will never forget him and all the wonderfull times we shared.RIP
