Prince George, B.C.-  B.C. Hydro has released an update on the next steps for the Site C dam near Fort St. John .

BC Hydro expects to  formally enter the pre-application stage of the environmental assessment process early next year  with the submission of a project description.

As part of the environmental assessment for Site C, there will be opportunities for consultation and input by the public, communities, First Nations, property owners and stakeholders.

In addition, during the environmental assessment process, BC Hydro will identify potential environmental and socio-economic effects from the project. Where impacts cannot be avoided, BC Hydro says  it will identify and evaluate options for mitigation.

Construction of Site C is subject to environmental certification and ensuring that the Crown’s constitutional duties to First Nations are met.

Good news,
Wonder if the mitigation process will be the same for the Williston dam back water?
Cheers
Micro generation in a homogeneous system is the future. Site C and more mega projects only spend our money for the financial gain of the few. Site C allows "them" to sell it off to California while our rates go up.

Say NO to site "C"
Say yes to Site C, the only benefactor to it will be the next generation, where they can plug in their electric automobiles.

Say yes to Site C, it means that we will once again be the cleanest province for electrical power, and are not buying dirty power from the states.

Say yes to Site C,
I would rather see BC sell clean hydro power to other provinces/states then a coal plant running. We should develop all the hydro we can that is low impact to the environment and sell power to others.
Seems people forget that the WAC Bennett dam was built in 1968 to supply cheap power to people and industry in BC. Whatever happened to the power.

It was sold to the Americans thats what happened, along with power from the Revelstoke dams, and God knows what else.

Where is our cheap power??? Do we have to build site C. Will it be handled the same as WAC. Of course it will. Hydro generates money for the Government the same way that Gambling, Liquor, Gas Tax, Income Tax, ICBC, etc; etc; etc;

You have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to try and find out where your power goes. BC Hydro-s power is sold by its subsiduary PowerEx, Most of course is sold to the Americans. Because they can get a better price by selling to the Americans they want us to burn candles, so that the power we save can be sold for a higher price.

We are being suckered as usual. If Hydro was handled ;properly in this Province, then Government buildings, Schools, Hospitals, etc; would get very cheap, if not free power. But no, we sell the power, and force these people to use natural gas for heating etc;

Now Prince George, soon to be named the Prince of Fools is going to burn wood to generate heat to supply hot water to heat buildings. A system that was used in the Eastern US and Canada back in the eighteen hundreds. We of course call it progress. Others would call it foolish.

We dont have a power shortage in this Province. What we have is a sell out to the Americans at the expense of BC Taxpayers.

What else is new.
