Mayor To Be Guest on Vancouver Radio Station that Trashed P.G.

Prince George, B.C.- The Mayor of Prince George, Dan Rogers, along with a representative from Tourism Prince George, will be the guests of the Classic Rock 101 FM radio station in Vancouver next week to set the record  straight about Prince George.
The radio station had been running an inaccurate and tasteless contest about Prince George. The winner of the contest got two tickets to the Elton john concert in Prince George, air fare and accommodation.
The wording of the contest has been changed following  what the radio station calls  “ a meeting with our legal department” and instead of referring to Prince George as the arm pit of the interior the City is now referred  to as the jewel of the interior.
No matter what , Opinion 250 is still running it’s contest about why Prince George is the preferred site for concerts. Entries will be accepted until midnight tonight. The winner will be drawn on Canada Day. To win, you must be a resident of Prince George and you must offer a comment as to why  concerts in Prince George are better than in Vancouver.
The winner will take home a $100 dollars.

Don't stoop to that level Dan, Your the Mayor of a city of 75,000. Not the mayor of Fraser Lake. your just being their little toy for the day. Don't even give them that credit. Send a spokes person and basically don't become their media servant.
the jewel of the interior ...

I know that the sewage lagoon at Kandahar airfeild in Afghanistan (where alot of troops are based that are on duty there) is reffered to as "emerald lake"

so ya "Jewel" is far from from a compliment in my eyes
Do we need to go to Vancouver to defend out City??? I think not. It would have been better to ignore this issue and move on.

I wonder if the Bro, the Stro, and the Ho from 101 are planning on coming to the concert?
It should just be left alone. They are getting far too much publicity as a result of their ridiculous contest. Any publicity is good publicity, so why are we giving it to them? They should not honor that station with any sort of recognition, they just don't deserve it.
I have to add, I think the 99.3 rebuttle was also in bad taste. Stooping to their level. What is the point in that? I think a request of a public apology of some sort would have been in order, but it's kind of hard to do that when we just did the same thing, isn't it?
Sending the mayor there will only make things worse.
Free trip to the big smoke for Danny boy,
and rubbing elbows with his own kind, how could he refuse? They'll talk shop, swap a few industry related tales, then belly up to the bar for a non fat caffeine free latte' or flap a chino.
metalman.
I wouldn't give them the attention.
I agree with everyone!!! The mayor is making a big mistake!!! Wonder if that is the advice of the $100,000 communications guy. Anyone getting tha much should know better!!!!

Time to create an emergency that needs tending to .....
Who says it is a trip? We actually do have the techonology to be on a radio show from the moon you know. Even a TV show, although that would cause some technical problems from here if there was to be a video connection involved.
As far as the radio station goes, they need to make a public apology and forget about the contest.

As far as there claim that they went to their legal deaprtment, waht a bunch of crapp. What station has a legal department? Certainly not one with a lawyer working there! if they had they would not have put such tongue in cheek words on there.

I mean, their "tell a story" department is totally lacking in developing any kind of credible material.
Would have thought our people could have done this from here....
more wastage of money
Dan and Tourism PG going to Vcr - on OUR dollar - give me a break - that is a complete waste of money and time. Why are we getting sucked into this - ignore it and move on. I totally agree with everyone here but Metalman hit the nail on the head. I can just imagine the scenario now - Dan blabbering on about nothing but thinking how amazing his voice is and on and on and on and on and on. And Gus, you're right - IF it has to be done at all, why can't it just be done over the phone - it is done every single day.
Why give that armpit of a DJ a ratings boost at our expense. And Greta you are probably right about Dan blabbering on an thinking how amazing his voice is, while brother Jake (or whatever his ridiculous moniker is) makes armpit farts at our expense one more time.

I'm with Gus! I don't think the mayor actually has to travel to Vancouver to do a radio show! We do have telephones in PG also!
The interview was not done in Vancouver, it was done by phone from PG and took place this morning at 8:15am. I heard it live...
Well it was fun to rant anyway, fun to believe that there was a trip involved.
metalman.
I agree with those who say to ignore that pathetic venting of hot air from Vancouver and not dignify it with an attempt to have an intelligent discussion with those particularly strange airheads.

We will gladly avoid Vancouver when we go on our next vacation.

There are many other places where we are always appreciated and treated with respect when signing in as coming from Prince George.
Ah, so I got in on the tail end of the interview when Pat Bell was on .....

It makes one wonder whether they have an imaginative PR person on there who has the script for the whole thing worked out from start to finish when those who will be sent here will be on the show and that day 3 is unfolding exactly as planned.

The current sound ads that are running have the revised inserts plugged in, not seamlessly, but in a very obvious fashion so that it is clear that they were revised.

If it was not at the expense of this or any other city, I think it is actually a very well carried out ad campaign, very similar to a very well prepared April Fools joke and everyone is falling for it or simply playing along with it so far.

But, sometimes they can backfire .... *wicked smile*
Why can't anyone take a joke? When residents say the exact same things it's okay, but when it's a joke on a Vancouver radio station it's suddenly a big deal? Grow a funnybone, people!
I agree with rambleon.

Also, if these radio guys are any good they will probably make Rogers look like a fool.
Geez, you guys gotta get out and about more. BC's "northern capital" must be too small for our overinflated opinion of our-
selves??? Big time ego in a "small town".
Buwahahahahahaha.
Soon to become "BCs Northern Mecca".
I'm embarrassed anyone bothered to respond to them.
I agree - stupid, stupid,stupid. But it's a free trip! We're lucky it wasn't a Honolulu station.
Mecca? Hot as Hades and an economy based solely on servicing pilgrims. Good luck with that!
John Wayne serviced pilgrims.
Having lived in P.G for a substantial amount of time, I think the "arm pit of the world" describes Prince George pretty accurately. You take offense because some one finally made it public...face it, if it smells like @#6% then it must be @#6%.
