Prince George, B.C. – Canada  Day is a time to celebrate, but if the celebrations involve raising a glass or two of an beverage that contains alcohol, ICBC and the RCMP want you to think twice about getting behind the wheel.

According to ICBC's statistics for the past five years (2005 -2009), on Canada Day alone, typically 165 people are injured in nearly 630 crashes on B.C. roads.   Of that number, 45 of those crashes will have happened in the central interior, and 10 people will have been hurt.

The summer drinking driving CounterAttack program has been launched and that means there will be plenty of police on the roadways watching for signs of impaired drivers.

A Happy CANADA DAY to all.....

and to those who think twice and still drive after drinking,
I hope they catch your sorry a$$.
So where are the stats on those crashes in relation to drinking and driving? Probably none.
Another warning from the Socialists. You vill do ass I say! Only thing they are missing is the swastika.
So Supertech
Are you one of the idiots that won't quit drinking and driving until they throw your a$$ in jail, or you kill someone? Or are you just against the Liberals and need to get a life?
Don't stop there, take Bikes off sidewalks, Trail Bikes and 4Wheelers off our Roads. I only follow the Rules didn't make them! I know some don't like this, to bad.
boomer..... what supertech says has nothing to do with whether he drink and drives or not. I don't drink, period.

BUT, I have the right, as supertech does, to ask a reasonable question, and for that matter, an unreasoanble question without having someone trying to undermine that by being dragged down into a less than human individual by some stupid comment such as yours!!!!

The question stands!!

There is a statistic of accidents in BC and in Prince George on Canada day cited above along with injuries. That is done in relation to a story about driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The reasonable questions are:
1. how many were caused by DUI as the primary cause.
2. How many were caused by driving with undue care and attention as the primary cause
3. How many were cause by excessive speed
4. How many were caused by failure to give the right of way
5. How many were caused by ........ and you put in some of the other favourite reasons you may have that are often subsets of the above.
One person hurt or killed buy someone who is impared and driving , be it drugs or alcohol, is one too many.... actually injury or death by any bad driver is one too many....
if people used their common sense, all these laws and rule wouldn't been necessary...but they don't.... so.....

I can't stop anyone from making a choice....you have that right...but for every choice there is a result..you make the choice to drink and drive the result is if you get caught you loose your licence, and maybe go to jail...so feel fre, make your choice....you have the right...
When people talk about rights, they often fail to talk about duties. The tow go hand in hand.

An eye for an eye, etc. does not deal with prevention, it deals with punishment and fear.

The duty that everyone has whether it deals with driving or not is to be respectful and protective of others. In other words, in this case, take all reasonable care to avoid injuring others as well as their property.

Most people will do that because that is how they were brought up.

Others will not, no matter what you do. They will always be there. So that is where your defensive driving skills come to play.

Remember, we have accidents such as the one about a year ago where someone went off the road and hit an oncoming car. Both sole occupants. Both killed on the spot. No alcohol involved.

As far as I know, there is still not a verifiable reason why the driver veered to the other side - radio, cell, fly in the car, drowsy and nodded off, reading directions, looking for something in a briefcase on the passenger seat, deer on the side of the road?

Other than the last one, all not paying attention to driving. THAT is the main root cause of crashes. People simply do not give driving the attention it needs. Cars are deadly because of the dependence on drivers who have a wide range of variability.

It's a sober reminder how easy it is to kill someone or be killed in a split second. It's not for the weak of heart, but should be shown to everyone wanting to get their driver's license.
