Prince George, B.C.-  Despite the cooler temperatures and wet weather, the  risk of wildfires remains  extreme in some areas of the Prince George fire centre.  In particular, the north east areas of the  region, including Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, have  pockets of  very dry  forest.

As of yesterday, there had been 14,419 hectares of  forest burned so far  this fire season.  More than half of that amount  has burned within the Prince George Fire Centre (8,081 hectares) largely due to the  blaze  north of Greer Creek  near Vanderhoof  which burned  a little over 6,100 hectares.

There have been 344 wildfires throughout the province so far this year,  and 148 of them have been in the  Prince George Fire Centre .  Of the fires in the Prince George Fire Centre this year,  108 have been caused by humans, the rest by lightning.
