Forest Fire Danger Remains High Despite Cooler Temps

Prince George, B.C.- Despite the cooler temperatures and wet weather, the risk of wildfires remains extreme in some areas of the Prince George fire centre. In particular, the north east areas of the region, including Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, have pockets of very dry forest.
As of yesterday, there had been 14,419 hectares of forest burned so far this fire season. More than half of that amount has burned within the Prince George Fire Centre (8,081 hectares) largely due to the blaze north of Greer Creek near Vanderhoof which burned a little over 6,100 hectares.
There have been 344 wildfires throughout the province so far this year, and 148 of them have been in the Prince George Fire Centre . Of the fires in the Prince George Fire Centre this year, 108 have been caused by humans, the rest by lightning.
