The Board of Directors of the Northern Development Initiative Trust has announced funding for the South Cariboo Recreation Centre (SCRC) Improvements project. The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) will receive $250,000 in the form of a grant from the Northern Trust towards development of the Centre as a 2010 Olympic Live Site and other improvements to the Recreation Centre. $62,500 of the grant will be repaid to the Trust over the next five years, to be available for other projects in the South Cariboo.
Several components of the SCRC project will be completed in time to help the District of 100 Mile House host the 2006 BC Northern Winter Games next month. These include; installation of a Dry floor with accessories, purchase of tables and chairs, installation of an audio-visual projection system and to purchase a forklift.
Other components of the project that will be completed later this year include; a new storage shed, fencing, geothermal extension, water softener, ball park fencing and log façade completion.
In making the announcement on behalf of the Northern Trust Board, Chair, Bruce Sutherland, stated “the SCRC project qualifies for Northern Trust funding under a number of project categories including Tourism, Olympic Opportunities and Economic Development."
