Wildfire Risk Remains High

Prince George , B.C.- Heading into what will be a another hot weekend, the Prince George fire centre wildfire risk remains extreme in the north east near Ft St. John and Ft. Nelson.
In the Cariboo Fire Centre , the hot weather and thunderstorms sparked six small lightning caused fires yesterday afternoon. Forest Service personnel are monitoring the fires, allocating resources as necessary. The Fire Centre is equipped with air tankers, helicopters and heavy equipment which can be deployed on a moment’s notice to aid the fire fighters on site. The majority of the Western Cariboo is currently in a high to extreme fire danger rating.
There was also a report of a fire in the Kamloops Fire Centre that was spotted yesterday afternoon.
The fire in Lower Nicola was estimated at two hectares and was growing quickly. The resources on site include sixteen firefighters and two pieces of heavy equipment. Airtankers were making good progress containing part of the fire and crews were working to build a guard around the rest of the fire. No structures are known to be threatened at this time. The Fire Danger Rating is currently moderate to high across most of the Kamloops Fire Centre.
