Williams Lake, B.C.- A new fire east of Tsasha Lake, 140 kilometres west of Quesnel, is estimated to be 150 hectares and is being driven by high winds.

Discovered about two o’clock this afternoon, the fire showed very active behaviour and moved quickly as winds gusted up to 35 kilometres per hour. Currently 28 firefighters are on site, assisted by heavy machinery, helicopters, and air tankers. Approximately 40 more firefighters are en route for tomorrow and will be accompanied by two more helicopters. These crews will be working to establish guards around the fire by removing any potential fire fuels.

The small community of Kluskus is in the area, however the fire is currently not threatening any structures. Fire suppression specialists are on site monitoring fire behaviour and weather conditions.

High winds are expected to continue through the night, fanning the flames. This wind will increase fire behaviour and cause the area to become very smoky, potentially hindering fire crews on site. Tomorrow’s forecast is more favourable for fire suppression activities as temperatures are expected to cool off significantly.
