Lac La Hache, B.C. – Highway 97 is closed to traffic, about 1 mile north of Lac La Hache, and is expected to remain that way for another hour as police try and clean up the mess that was created on the highway when a fifth wheeler being towed by a truck caught fire.
The flames burned the trailer to the ground, and caused a fire to break out in the nearby grass which then spread to bush alongside of the highway.
A water bomber was called in to drop retardant on the blaze after it began to get a grip on the grass and the area near the highway. That fire has now been brought under control.
The accident occurred at 5:25 pm. Saturday (today), the highway is expected to open at around 8:30 tonight.
Investigators say the fifth wheel caught fire after a propane tank exploded on the fifth wheel.
No one has been injured.
