The Nechako River is expected to be a crowded waterway today

Prince George, B.C. -  Prince George RCMP say they'll be vigilant and they're reminding participatants of today's 2nd Annual 'Nechako River Float' to do likewise...

RCMP Constable Gary Godwin says, with the influx of possibly several thousand people to the Miworth area, specifically Wilkins Park, for today's tubing event, police want to remind people to take care on two fronts: water safety and alcohol consumption.

The 'float' means people will be launching their tubes, rafts, and other floatation devices and drifting down to Cottonwood Island Park.  Constable Godwin is reminding participants to make sure they're wearing a personal floatation device, as well.  He says there have already been a number of drownings, so far, this summer and police want the public to be as safe as possible.

As for alcohol, Godwin warns drinking and driving laws will be strictly enforced, as will the Liquor Control and Licencing Act.  He says any open alcohol will be seized and anyone caught consuming it in a public place will be ticketed.  In addition, intoxicated individuals could be arrested, charged and released when sober.
