Prince George, B.C. – Anyone going camping  this weekend needs to know,  campfires are not allowed in  all but the Kootenay  region of B.C.

Minister of Forests and Range Pat Bell,  says the fire danger remains high in most  areas of the province,  and  so far this year,  there is some good news.

The amount spent on fighting fires so far this year is  $27.1 million dollars,   about half of the amount ($64.9 million) spent fighting fires last year.  So far this year, about 23,000 hectares have been lost,  compared to 47 thousand hectares last year.

The bad news is  that this year,  65% of the fires have been human  caused  compared to about 40% last year.

So  this long weekend  no open fire,  no campfires unless you are heading to the  Kootenay region.

And what will happen if someone lights a campfire? They will get a fine of course. Ahhh the fire cops! Are they roaming the city too or do they simply rely on us to rat 'em out? I'll sure be looking and sniffing to make sure they pay the price! How about a reward? That should help.
Don't worry about it. No one cares on a weekend. It is pathetic.
