Lekstrom In? Of Course

To no one’s surprise, Jay Hill has announced that he will not seek re election in the Prince George- Peace River federal riding.

No surprise you ask?  well the moment that Blair Lekstrom quit the BC , “Liberals” over the HST, your mind would naturally drift to why Lekstrom quit the cabinet.  Was it the HST or maybe, just maybe , he had the inside track on Hill leaving?

Will Lekstrom take a run for the seat being vacated by Hill?  Take three guesses , the first two don’t count.

It is an ideal spot to be in, former Provincial Cabinet Minuister , a perfect launch pad in the anti HST sentiment that has been very prevalent in the north, and an opportunity to someday maybe be in the federal cabinet.

To make the nomination for the right to represent the riding is also much easier. Nominations have been traditionally held in Ft St John and it is easier to muster the troops to come to that city rather than a trip down south to PG.

So can we  expect an announcement from Lekstrom?  Of course we can just as soon as the nomination nears.

There is little point in coming out of the gate like a raped ape, only to burst the balloon too quickly.  So while it is not official, count Lekstrom "in" as the leading candidate in that federal riding.

And  by the way the opposition to the HST?  Don’t expect Blair to take up the fight when he gets to Ottawa, that was a BC problem, more over it was a BC Liberal problem and he  is no longer a B.C. Liberal.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s’ opinion.

I got some questions I want answered for this nomination process. Essentially who ever wins will be our next MP, and so I think it is essential that we have some hard pointed questions for the candidates and early if at all possible so that we can present another alternative if they are just going to be party hacks that represent the prevailing party policy to the region and not our concerns to the party.

If Lekstrom wants to take his time then I think we have his answer to those questions.

I think Harper needs to be put on notice in this nomination process and not coddled for his part in the HST scandal, as well as Harpers broken promises on the EEE Senate reforms, government transparency, securities enforcement regulations, and the move away from Canadian fair mindedness in our foreign policy as regards to the Middle East especially.

We need to know if these people are going to represent us or their own careers?
Why will this Conservative (sic) nominee be the next MP from our riding? Do we still have a majority of citizens who believe the Harper lies and support his undermining of democracy?
We need an honest candidate from some party (any party) with the backbone to represent his/her constituents rather than act as a handpuppet for Stephen Harper's ego.
So Lekstrom may be running for Conservative MP, and Neufield is a Conservative Senator, and there are still those who believe that the Provincial Liberals are really "Liberals", and are trying to get a Provincial "Conservative" party.

It seems that we already have one.
