Victoria, B.C. - Premier Gordon Campbell has offered condolences on behalf of all British Columbians to the families of the pilot and co-pilot of the Conair flight who died when their Convair 580 crashed near Lytton last night while fighting fires in that area.
The 58 year old pilot was from the lower mainland, the co-pilot from Alberta.
"On behalf of all British Columbians, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic plane crash. Our hearts and prayers go out to them in this difficult time” says the Premier’s statement.
His comments further read; "As British Columbians, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who bravely put their lives in danger to keep our homes, our families and our communities safe. All British Columbians are grateful to those who are fighting the fires and their ongoing efforts.
"The effort of first responders to reach the crash site in spite of the difficult terrain and dangerous fire conditions is a testament to the bravery shown by these men and women every day.”
In recognition of this tragic loss, all flags at Ministry of Forests and Range offices will fly at half-mast this week.
