Prince George - Prince George Fire Rescue is being inundated with calls of concern from Prince George residents about the blanket of smoke that is covering the city.

This smoke is being blown in from the various forest fires burning through-out the province.
Forestry officals are currently monitoring conditions with aircraft, and report no interface fires are burning in or near the city.

Residents are urged to call 911, should they spot a fire. However, to avoid overloading dispatchers, please refrain from calling for a 'smell of smoke'.

It's getting so thick I thought there was a fire in my neighbourhood.
sure its not someones woodstove?? better get the woodstove police out there to make sure.
It is very thick west of town and the smell is awful. I honestly thought one of my neighbors was burning there wood heaters.
This is the first time the smoke is thicker outside my hot-boxed trans am.
Alot of this smoke is from bettle killed forest where the ground is littered with dead needles and go up super fast it is going to probably get worse before it gets better.

Being a former forest fire fighter my heart goes out to the men and women slogging through the ash and tinder dry forests trying their best to put out the fires or at least contain them. Its hot miserable dirty work and thankless as hell.
Thank you all you forest fire fighters.

It is always good to see local news reported.

We had a recent call from a distant relative with concern over the internet news reports about smoke and fires currently (????) in Prince George.

Although sceptial about the phone call, I followed his link.

I am happy to report that....although there is a lot of smoke in the air, currently, over Prince George....the evacuation order of May 2 8, 2 0 0 8 is long ended.
All this smoke sure is sobering. I too thought there was a fire in my neighbourhood. Hoping for some relief for the province. Rain and lots of it, without the lightening please.
