Jobless Rate Up in P.G.

Prince George, B.C. - Unemployment went up 2% in Prince George last month to 9.3% up from 7.3% recorded in June.
For the Cariboo region, the rate moved up to 8.6% from the June mark of 7.1
Provincially, the rate dropped. It was sitting at 7.8% in June, and slipped to 7.5 in July. Stats Canada says there were 16 thousand new jobs   in B.C. last month.
Nationally, the rate inched up to 8.0%, from the June mark of 7.9%

What accounts for this 2% gain? And considering all the mills still shut, why were we down to 7.3?
City Hall is now providing the employment stats cause thats were all the knowlegdable people are.

These rates are based on the number of people collecting EI compared to the number employed. They do not account for those whose EI has expired or are on income assistance or worse, totally out of the social support network.
High school and college students entering the job market. Rate will go down in end of September.
Loki I think that's how the U.S. calculates unemployment rates, that is why they are always lower. I believe Canadian stats includes all unemployed people.
Treeplanters and seasonal workers likley made up for a big part of "the boom" earlier in the spring and summer. They've all since been layed off
