Fraser Lake, B.C. -  Motorists travelling on Highway 16-West overnight were forced to detour near Fraser Lake, while investigators examined the scene of a fatal head-on collision...

Fraser Fort George Traffic Services Sergeant Pat McTiernan says one woman was killed in the crash that occurred at approximately 1:30am this morning on the highway near the Holy Cross Forest Service Road, east of Fraser Lake.

McTiernan says members of Fraser Lake RCMP and Vanderhoof Traffic Services arrived on-scene to find that an eastbound Chevrolet Cobalt had collided with an unloaded logging truck travelling westbound.

He says the female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim had been wearing her seatbelt; however, succumbed to the injuries she sustained.  The female driver of the logging truck was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

Sergeant McTiernan says investigators believe alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors in the deadly crash.  He says police are speaking with witnesses to determine the pre-crash activities of the car and they're asking anyone with information to come forward.

The collision restricted travel on Highway 16 for nine hours overnight, while investigators documented the scene and recovered the vehicle.
