Prince George, B.C. – While the Cariboo and Prince George Fire Centres have faced many challenges this summer, the worst may be on the horizon.
The forecast for Thursday of this week is for high winds, and that, says Minister of Forests and Range Pat Bell, could spell disaster. “You know I am not trying to be dramatic” he told Opinion250, “but the winds expected when the cold front comes this week, could mean we lose the battle with the fires in the Cariboo and in the Prince George Fire Centre.”
Bell says anyone planning a trip to the Back country is asked to postpone that activity and if you know of people already in the back country, if you could try to contact them and advise them to get to safety, just in case.
The tinder dry conditions and the large fires already burning could see sparks and embers fly throughout the region if the predicted winds accompany the cold front. Bell says everything that can be done to prepare for the weather change is being done, but Thursday may be the worst the firefighters, and this Province have seen for fire activity
