What suggestions to deal with neighbours that bully other neighbours? Beat them up!!!!
That's simple. Have a party and invite them.
BTW, I am here for the next week, but gone after that for a couple of weeks. So you better plan your party for no later than Sunday if you know what is good for you!!! ....
Does anyone have information on the house fire at Cluculz Lake last night? Seemed to be on Meier Road.
Let's join those good folks whose idea of a party is to build a bonfire at a certain abandoned gravel pit, surrounded by dry forest, within city limits.
We can be sure that our fire, built of wooden pallets and entire felled poplars will not attract the attention of the officials who assiduously assure that there are no open backyard weenie roasts. These bonfires are built on weekends when no bylaw officers are on duty.
Why worry about sparking a forest holocaust when we can just jump in our vehicles and leave the fire to others? It won't be our homes which are consumed.
Looks like the smoke lifted a bit. I wonder if 10,000 years from now this layer of ash will be making archeologist wonder what caused it?
Bonfire to burn my neighbours house down.
how come there is nothing on the news paper or radio or tv about the hijinks with sportsnet one
anyone mad enough to turn in their rogers phones
So I am driving home from work last night through the thick smoke and I see a woman jogging! Now that is stupid enough but she was pushing a baby stroller! What the hell is wrong with these joggers? You see them in -20 jogging too! You would think that if you are jogger you would know when to jog, if not then learn. This woman should be visited by Child Services! Poor little baby.

Up the road a little ways and I see two young lads on a motor bike and atv heading up a steep hill into the bush! They are telling people to stay out of the bush. We are smoked out and the chance of a fire is Extreme and parents are letting their kids play in the forest.

Some people do not deserve children. Some people are stupid beyond words. I am pissed off!
Smoke here, Smoke there, Smoke everywhere. I wonder if the people that want to BAN ALL CAMPFIRES in city backyards are taking note. So insignificant, don't you think. Enough smoke has been spewed into the air this summer to equal backyard campfires for the next century.
A BIG thank you to the loser/losers that took one of my wife's favourite plants off our deck last night, only to destroy it just down the street. It appears others were "hit" as I saw a sprinkler and what appeared to be a light fixture also smashed on the road. She works very hard to keep her plants, and our home looking nice, and in a moment, these morons do more damage than to just our plants. Why? Are you neglected? Mom din't breast feed you? Maybe you are just immature/drunk/stoned or all of the above. Hope you enjoyed your walk last night. Jerks.
Hey mr Vikingnuck, be like Eric the Red, Take out your broad sword and whack their arms off, this way they won't be doing it again.

Gitrdun, I kind of agree with you, its kind of quiet from the air fairies. With a little luck, their wings are getting shinged and will not be able to patrol us.

Every firepit and wood stove burning for a whole year would not equate to 1/10th of what we had in one day. So, what is the big deal. Most new stoves are built so tight that its principle design is to reburn the smoke, so that the particulate amount is reduced.

Who the heck came up with 50 cm, 2 ft is 60 cm.

All we need is a week of rain, and it will dampen out the woods enough to stop the fire. I would suspect that we are gonna get hit hard with a lot of snow this winter and it is gonna be cold. Next spring, there is gonna be a lot of landslides. Yep, pretty much can read the next 10 months.

50 cm is the size of the fire pits allowed in the city of PG

I can't say as though I would take my child out with me in these conditions, but why do you care so much about what someone else does with their body, especially when they are out EXERCISING? I went for a couple of runs earlier in the week and I was fine (I wouldn't have gone out yesterday mind you). In fact, the heat and humidity was tougher to deal with than the air. Then again, I've found that since I've started running I'm far less succeptible to the bad air. It's also dependant on how hard you are execising. Perhaps the person you saw was jogging, when they normally run?Maybe they are healthy enough to handle that, whereas a person who doesn't exercise at all, smokes and drinks a 6 pack every day, can barely make it up a flight of stairs in this air without needing a break.

Whatever the case, I'm almost certain that most joggers and runners know what their limits are when it comes to safe exercise for THEM. I'd be less worried about them and more worried about the folks that don't exercise at all and have to deal with this air.
You won't feel the fine ash in your lungs, but it's doing damage. If you need to run why not go to the indoor track at UNBC?
Why do people write letters to the Editor, and make posts about being robbed, or having something stolen from them. Do they actually beleive that crooks read newswpapers, and Opinion 250. The very best you culd expect from the average crook would be his ability to read the comic strip, or comic books, and watch assinine TV. So they will never see your message.

Couldnt figure out for the last few months why traffic was so light in this town. Then if finally dawned on me.

All the University and College teachers, workers, and students, all school district 57 teachers and workers, and students who drive cars, and all parents who drive their kids to school and pick them up, all school buses. are off the road, and hence a 25% reduction in traffic every day.

Come September there should be a significant increase. It was nice while it lasted.

NMG...the jogger was pushing a baby stroller...absolutely stupid with the air quality as high as it is and so much smoke. Who cares about the jogger. It's just the baby that bothers me.
Yeah I agree completely about the baby mythoughts. Heck, I wouldn't have been out myself in what we had yesterday. As for running at UNBC, that certainly is an option. Of course, running outside is more enjoyable for many people and unless you have underlying health issues, you can still do it safely if you pay attention to the AQ ratings and make sure to not be out there when it's like it was yesterday. You also need to know your own body and what you can handle and/or tolerate. But yeah, yesterday was ridiculous IMHO.
HST drives up Canada's inflation rate ..... BC and Ontario combine to make up half of Canada's economy .... HST in Atlantic provinces rises 2% ...

Who would'a thunk that, eh??? .. LOL ... the feds pulled a fast one on the provinces .... and the worst of it is that the provincial governments are taking all the flack ....

http://finance.sympatico.ca/home/canadas_inflation_rate_driven_up_by_hst/5c3240d4
When it comes to the backyard burning and wood stoves, it is not the so called air fairies of PACHA that are to blame for that. It is the bureaucrats at City Hall since they are devoid of coming up with any meaningful ways of actually influencing the air quality in the bowl as opposed to the air quality of the immediate surroundings of a home.

They have idle free zones. The have wood stove restrictions that still allows the burning of wood because, after all, it "green".

It is so "green" in fact, that they will be creating the mother of all wood stoves downtown to feed some of the largest buildings in the downtown thus concentrating in the downtown what is likely greater than the equivalent of all high efficient wood stoves in this city.

I guess PACHA does have something to do with that one since they blessed it as being all good.
Have been staying with family in the I.M.U. at the hospital and could smell the smoke coming in through the air conditioners. I wonder if they'll clean out those filter's after all these fires are said and done.
Gus. I followed the link and read the article. The author sums up his article with.

"While the HST made all the noise last month, the fact is that underlying inflation remains quite tranquil, neither threatening to dip into deflation terrain nor pushing above the [Bank of Canada's annual] two per cent target.

the modest price gains give the central bank time to breathe before hiking interest rates this fall."

Sounds like a good news story.
Every summer there is a rash of kids, who get a thrill of sneaking around in the middle of night and trashing people's nice work on their flowers and smashing the solar powered lights. When I hear them coming down the block, after calling the cops, I use the opportunity to try out my paint ball equipment :)
Palopu. I have noticed the summer effect in our traffic as well. It is very noticable in big cities. A friend of mine moved to the lower mainland a few years back. His goal was to live within a 30 minute drive to work. He bought his house in Surrey in the summer and drove the route several times at different times of day before completing the deal. Now for 10 months a year his drive takes an average of an hour.
In the Citizen a lady writes ,concerning the murder on Oak.St. We will be calling the RCMP on a regular basis to report drug dealers, transients, prostitutes, and JOHNS and we hope they will be there for us. The police ARE there for us. It's the CITY and NOTHERN HEALTH that are doing their best to distroy the neighbourhoods in certain areas by dumping the Cities unwanted in them. How many other neighbourhoods have a BIG VAN going around looking for people to hand out needles to??Do you see this VAN in College Heights??When people are let out of jail are they sent home?? The murdered young man was from Fort ST.John. This BIG Health Clinic that is in the planning process for these people, where do you think they will put it?? Of course they will buy the land first, thats the way the blood suckers operate, as we well know. Our City is distroying our City by welcoming these people with open arms.
With the forests burning all around us we've definitely got some immediate worries, but I can't help sounding off about my latest exposure to the HST.

I bought a rotisserie chicken from Save-On yesterday and although you need a Brinks truck and gold bars in a wheel barrow in order to be able to afford to shop there, I foolishly succumbed because it was on my way home. The skinny little chicken was 8.99 it used to be 7.99 but gee Jimmy Pattison has to eat too right? The HST on said chicken was a buck, so the emaciated hen cost me close to 10 bucks. The roasting of the chicken has already been incorporated into the price by Jimmy, but now i have to pay the government too.

My question is how the hell does the government think they deserve my food dollar? Why do I have to flip Gordon Campbell my hard earned dollar when I'm trying to feed my family? How is this government serving the people of this province? They tell us with a bold face that this latest shafting is good for all and we'll see businesses passing on savings to us. Well I don't see Jimmy Pattison or any other corporate pirates passing any savings on to me. That is just another bloody insult to my intelligence. I say we recall each and everyone of these lying bandits and hold their feet over the fire until they yell uncle and admit that they sold BCR from under us and they put the province in the poorhouse with the Olympics, and they are all about big business and the raping of this province to fill corporate coffers and they are skinning us now with HST because they think we are all stupid, backwards, mouth breathing peons. And sometimes I think that maybe we are. Maybe we deserve this government because we are all a bunch of gormless, slack jawed patsys.

What do you think?

non partisan party!
Summer traffic less while school is out???

I am sorry, but it has been my experience for decades whether here, in Toronto or in Ottawa, both at times when people had larger families ans smaller families.

It is the time that those who have children still tend to take vacations of some sort of another which typically takes them out of town, even if it is only to a friend's cottage or simpler yet, staying at home for a couple of weeks.

We have to remember that most younger people still have only two weeks vacation a year in North America, possibly up to three. In Europe the norm is more like 4 to 6. Paris shuts down for much of August, which is still their vacation month.

So, in Canada it is July and August ... 8 to 9 weeks at the most when at least half the working population leaves the city or does not drive to work for 2 to 3 weeks.

Based on those conservative numbers the "rush hour" traffic, as well as the locally induced weekend and evening shopping traffic should be reduced by 12.5% to 16.5%.

Actually those in post secondary education (CNC + UNBC) don't quite fit into that pattern in the same way as elementary and hs teachers since they work varying hours, so they really don't even fit into the same rush hour mix very well at any time of the year.
Junco .... I disagree with you on the BCR and the Olympics.

However, I agree with you on the chicken bit and any food for that matter that is meant to be eaten at home at the least, but actually it should also be any food wherever it is eaten.

In fact, I don't agree with ANY HST and I do not agree with the way the government brought it in. I do not think their rationale is very rational at all. It relies too much on theory rather than practice. It is not based on the Keep It Simple Stupid" principle at all. Far from it.
Hey Junco...hubby bought one of those chickens too. Guess what? I will be making all the chickens in our home from now on!
With our hated HST, gun control controversy. the Tamils arriving unorthodoxily, the Pakistan floods and the donation debate, forest fires around us, the bad economy in the US affecting us, the adherents of a particular religion killing doctors and nurses helping Afghans, and last but not least a tidbit about Obamas religion. Just the fact it has become a debate says a lot. How unusual to question a leaders religion. We are indeed living in "interesting times". Mexican drug lords running the prisons down there. Someone getting killed on a city street and letters to the editor about how much some people who bothered to write are upset. With all this is going on in the world, I want a newspaper that only shows pictures of puppies and kittens, kids selling lemonade and maybe some pictures of pretty flowers. That in itself will make this world a much better place. Reality kinda sucks, don't it?
There is an unspoken disconnect between the way English Parliamentary tradition works, and the way modern voters think.
The system is obsolete.
Go Republic of Canada.

The system is VERY obsolete.

The Ironman Triathlon is the way to decide who should represent us.
Gus

What was your point on summer traffic being lighter? Do you agree or disagree? I couldn't understand your post.
So the judge sides in favour of the anti-HST petition.
He ruled that it can proceed to the legislature.
Can't say I am really suprised, but given the Campbell clowns penchant for sticking their dirty little noses into everything,I really did wonder which way it would all go.
Not to mention the suspicious delays and politicial manipulations in the B.C. Rail trial as an example of how things can be toyed with and delyed!
Now on to the legislature with this...and another round of delays.
This is far from over, and there will be more roadblocks thrown up by the Campbell Liberals.
It would seem there is something they would rather no one sees within the walls of the legislature, and they will fight this to the bitter end.
The good of the people of B.C. has nothing to with the HST and never did, and it has nothing to do with the government's fight to ram the HST through.
And that is where it all went wrong for Gordon Campbell and company.
Even a rat will fight back when cornered, and obviously 700,000 people in B.C. felt cornered.
Now, they know that not only will their elected government sell them out,so will big business!
The good part is that democracy worked...for now at least!
Three cheers for B.C.!
Summer traffic winter traffic in PG most times there is no traffic. I have to make a left hand turn onto Ospicka and at the most I wait about a minute to complete that turn, winter or summer or vacation time or any time.

It takes, longer to get through a controlled intersections mostly because the guys that service the traffic controllers don’t know how to set them up for good traffic flow or for lack of service. We'll miss you Joe while your gone for the two weeks.
Cheers
How come the RCMP are so military looking. Whats with the look. Down in the states in most cases they don't have the, look along with the paramilitary attitude were everyone is guilty.

My same observation goes with the conservasion officers , what gives? A CO with a sidarm, why? Have they had battles at the ok corral?, man-eating salmon, what? The sidarm is about useless against anything in the bush, man or animal. I have a hard time trying to stop giggling whenever I see one.

If these outfits would drop their paramilitary look maybe peoples attitudes towards them might change.
Andy, any levelheaded premier would have reconsidered the HST thing by now and said: "Ooops, we still think it's a good idea but obviously the people don't want it - we are going to back up and undo it!"

No harm done, the people will have been listened to...life goes on. Politicians often have to reconsider previously made decisions! The man perhaps does not understand that it is not always a sign of weakness when a person gives in, it is often a sign of wisdom and having an open mind.

Too bad! He either does not listen to advice, or he is given bad advice, or he is not really in charge...what is it?

I don’t really sea how this HST petition can get rid of the hated tax. If it goes to the legislature for a vote pinocchio has the majority when legislation is brought in to appeal the tax it will just be defeated. Remember this guy has destroyed most of our province. I’ll take bets that the HST stays.

The only recourse will be to start recall petitions in the province. It will be along battle .
Cheers
I am still surprised there has not been a story on the massive Binta Fire burning near Fraser Lake.

It grew from about 7000 hectares earlier in the week to 38000 hectares on Friday morning.

The evacuation zone covers a very large area, and many people are being affected.
Retired, if the HST goes to a vote in the Legislature, how can the Liberal MLAs that vote "for" it claim they are representing their consituents when every poll that's been taken on the issue has shown overwhelming opposition to the HST?

The last one I saw had 86% of British Columbians opposed to it, and I don't recall seeing any over the whole course of the controversy over this tax that've been below 72% opposed.

Sure, we can cut our MLAs some slack in allowing them to vote according to their best judgement on the vast majority of issues that come before them. Issues where there is not such a polarization of public opinion.

But on this particular tax, with the opposition to it, and/or to the way it was brought in, that still obviously exists, no MLA can claim he or she is properly representing the majority of their constituents by voting "for" the HST.

It's time the Liberal MLAs themselves pushed from within their own caucus to end the litany of purposeful deception that's emanated from the leadership of their group on the HST right from the beginning.
Loki:-"There is an unspoken disconnect between the way English Parliamentary tradition works, and the way modern voters think.

Go Republic of Canada."
----------------------------------------
If that's what you want, Loki, then I'd say just, "Go, Canada. Its usefulness has passed." We'd might as well just all become Americans.

For if we're not going to have the peace, order and good govenment inherent in a properly functioning constitutional monarchy, we might just as well have the full scale life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of the USA.

A Republic of Canada would embody neither ~ it would simply destroy the traditions this country has been built on and replace them with absolutely nothing of value.
gus:-"The system is VERY obsolete."
----------------------------------------
The system is far from obsolete, Gus. What's wrong with it, is too few understand the 'checks and balances' inherent within it are being purposefully neutered by politicians seeking to be more than they should properly ever be ~ 'advisors' to the Crown.

Fixed election dates is one of the more blatant examples of how this has happened.

It was put in by Campbell, ostensibly, to stop a PM or Premier from calling an election whenever it suited him, and, supposedly, "to save us money."

No mention that a Premier under fire as Campbell now is over the HST issue could previously resolve the situation by being "responsible", and if he and his Party truly believe the HST is so vital to the well-being of BC's economy and their ability of govenment to oversee it, be prepared to go to the polls on that issue RIGHT NOW.

Instead, they hide behind the "we're the government for the next four years, we can do whatever we want, (knowing with all the money the Feds have given us to spend for implementing the HST, conveniently just before the next fixed election date, we'll be able to buy our way back into office), thanks to the fixed election date. An American concept that has no place in the British paliamentary system that properly embodies both 'responsible' and 'representative' government.

DO NOT KNOW WHAT I FIND MORE INTERESTING ABOUT YOU. YOUR NEED TO PUT DOWN PEOPLE WHO VENT IN A FORUM THAT IS CALLED "FREE FOR ALL" WHICH ALLOWS PEOPLE TO VENT OR YOUR ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SKILLS OF OBSERVATION AND RATIONALIZATION THAT ALLOW YOU TO ACTAUALLY REALIZE THAT THERE IS LESS TRAFFIC WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT. YOU SIR/MA'AM OR WHATEVER YOU MAY BE ARE TRUELY A GENIUS. A REAL GENIUS. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM WITH THIS FORUM. I FOR ONE AM RICHER AND WISER FOR HAVING READ YOUR WORDS
Vikingduck. What are you quacking about.

I was merely pointing out the reduction in traffic because of school being out and thousands of people who normally drive their kids to and from school, plus teachers, students, busses, etc, are now off the roads during rush hour. No doubt they are around later in the day, except for those on holiday. In any event they are spread out over the day and therefore there is less traffic density.

I seriously doubt if any criminals actually read the newspapers, or Opinion 250. I have no problem with your venting about any problems, all I am saying is that the criminal element probably doesnt ready the newspaper, or 250,and therefore would not get the benefit of your venting.

So in closing Vikingduck, I suggest you find another ox to gore.
Looks like a "free-for-all" broke out in "free for all" Friday. :-)
