Inquest Set For Police Shooting

Prince George, B.C. - The B.C. Coroner's Service has scheduled an inquest into last fall's fatal police shooting near the community of Hazelton.
35-year-old Rodney Shayne Jackson was shot during an arrest attempt that involved the RCMP's North District Emergency Response team in the remoote community of Gitanaax. (click here for Opinion250 story) Jackson was transported from the scene to hospital, where he died a short time later.
An inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death has been set for November 29th to December 3rd at the Provincial Court building in Smithers.
Presiding Coroner Shane DeMeyer and a jury will hear testimony from subpoenaed witnesses over the course of the inquest and the jury will be charged with making recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.

It would seem they are simply done to appease the public.
It cannot attach blame,(not that the officer is guilty of any crime)and all it can actually do is make recommendations.
Much of the time,these recommedations are largely ignored by the parties involved.
I have sat on a inquest jury involving a death,and I have never been so frustrated in my life..
The proceedings are carefully controlled,even down to your choices for a verdict.
A waste of time and money, for the most part.
