Fire Destroys Cabin At Cluculz Lake

Prince George, B.C. -  Fire completely gutted a cabin at Cluculz Lake last night...

Cluculz Lake Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief, Gail Poisson, says the blaze broke out just down the road from her residence and it was fully engulfed when she arrived on-scene, on Meier East Road.

Poisson called out the department's three trucks and had BC Forests, RCMP and ambulance on-scene.  She points out bystanders were critical in helping the volunteer firefighters, as well.

Poisson says, fortunately, the wind was in their favour last night, and B.C. Forests was able to contain the blaze fairly quickly.  She says it did spread into the woods a bit, and one tree was roped off because it was burning six-metres up -- but she says Forestry was able to leave the scene the same time as the VFD.

The Deputy Chief says she was extremely cautious in light of a similar fire less than one month ago, that sent her husband, also a volunteer member, to hospital overnight.  Again, she points out, the lack of wind made a huge difference last night.

As for the cabin, it was unoccupied.  The owner had been there the previous day, doing some painting.  She says some witnesses reported hearing a boom before the fire broke out.  There was no propane on-scene, but there were two 45-gallon drums with hydrolic oil.

She says there is only speculation, at this point, as to what caused the fire.  RCMP will be back on-site to investigate today.

Another one, maybe they need to have a volunteer fire department
DUH I think they do according to Gail from the Cluculz Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
So, how do we know where Gail gets her information from?

Being the VP of the Cluculz Lake Volunteer Fire Department I would think that she brings a biased point of view about whether there is a Volunteer Fire Department.

Can we take a survey to see whether people think there is one or not?
