Kamloops, B.C. – A police investigation has been launched into an incident that is alleged to have occurred at the RCMP cells in Kamloops on August 18th.
Police say the information only came to them on August 23rd and involved up to seven people, both civilian and RCMP officers.
Reports say that an HIV female prisoner was housed in the same cell with a younger woman. It is alleged that the two became involved in a sexual act and the jail staff failed to stop them.
As a result of information being received, police have confirmed that criminal and internal code of conduct investigations were immediately launched and are focused on the actions or inactions of four RCMP members and three municipal staff.
A criminal investigation is also underway that focuses on the actions of one of the two parties located in the cells. The investigation is being led by the Serious Crime unit of Kamloops.
The story came to light after the incident was raised by John Daly of Global TV, Vancouver who first uncovered the story.
