Prince George, B.C. -  It's got a new name, but the message is the same: get involved and get active.

The "Active Living Market" is on at Pine Centre Mall this weekend.  Known as "Recreation Market" for the past decade, it's one-stop-shopping for city residents looking to find out more about the numerous groups and organizations in the city, and the services they offer -- everything from organized sports, to dance lessons, to art classes, to volunteer opportunities.

The City's Recreation Coordinator, Doug Hofstede, says 'active living' more aptly describes the market, as it has progressed over the years to involve more than just local sports groups.  He says approximately 35 groups will have information booths in the mall both today and tomorrow.  Everything from minor basketball, to figure skating, to the Prince George Astronomical Society, the Two Rivers Art Gallery, and Scouts Canada.

He says the market is a "win-win-win" affair.  Hofstede says it's a wonderful opportunity for families to find a pastime for everyone.  He says many of the non-profits involved often "hang their hat on this" as their main effort to recruit new members.  As well, he says, it makes for a busy weekend for the mall.
