Mayor Says Twinning Needs to Be Reviewed

Prince George, B.C.- A jet lagged Mayor Dan Roger says his first trip to China was “overwhelming”.
Although a full debriefing with media has been set for later today, Mayor Rogers says there are some educational opportunities that could be positive for Prince George, but it will be up to the University of Northern B.C.. the College of New Caledonia and even School District 57 to pursue those avenues.
After spending ten days in China visiting the World Expo in Shanghai and then visiting the City of Jiangmen for a possible twinning opportunity, the Mayor says this first visit reinforced the fact that Prince George should be looking at all opportunities with China and the Asia Pacific corridor, but there are still questions to be answered about the twinning opportunity “We want to make sure we take our time. What we’ve done is a bit of a fact finding mission to see if there is an alignment with our needs. We will now need some months to reflect and see if this is the right thing to do and if so, in what areas and what specific terms?”
The Mayor says the financial implications of “twinning” for the City of Prince George have yet to be determined “I think we need to take some time to step back and say where do we get involved and what are the likely benefits and what are the costs to maintain those relationships?”
