Prince George, B.C. - The City of Prince George is just hours away from finding out if it has won the bid to host the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Committee co-chair, Les Waldie and nine others with the City and bid committee, headed to Vancouver yesterday afternoon as guests of the Canada Games Council.
“We have heard lots of positive buzz about our bid” says Waldie, but he says there have been no hints as to which bid is the winner. Prince George is up against Kamloops and Kelowna in the bid for the 2015 Games.
This morning, the City is hosting a public event at the Atrium between the CN and Kin Centres, where the bid announcement will be made live. The doors open at 9:00, the official announcement is expected shortly before 10:30 this morning. Anyone who would like to witness the live announcement but is unable to attend the Atrium event, can watch the announcement on live streaming video by clicking here.
If Prince George secures the right to host the games, Waldie says the work will begin immediately “As soon as we get back to Prince George, we will reconvene the Bid Committee and finalize the arrangements for the Host Society including the development of the Society’s constitution.”
And if the City doesn’t win? “We will still view this whole exercise as a positive experience” says Waldie “It has created so much positive feedback in the community and we will be celebrating that.”
