Prince George, B.C. – A bathroom exhaust fan is suspected as being the cause of  a fire in College Heights yesterday.

A passer-by spotted flames coming from the  home  at the corner of Moriarty and Madden around 9:30 yesterday morning and called the fire department.

Fifteen firefighters from 3 halls responded to find fire in the roof of the upper section of the house. A quick attack knocked the fire down, while the remainder of the house and contents were protected from damage with tarpaulins and careful water application.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and forcible entry was required.   Crews remained on scene for  about two hours  making sure there were no hot spots.

The bathroom exhaust fan  has been seized by an inspector from the BC Safety Authority for testing.

The fire caused between $75,000 and $100,000.

Woo! the bathroom fan has been seized!
Perhaps impending seizure of the cheapo fan bearings may have created enough heat to ignite the fuzz that collects on the fan?
Note to readers: take the grille off your bathroom fans once a year and vacuum out all the dust and fuzz. I take the fan assembly right out of my fans, in order to give all the parts a good cleaning.
A firefighter friend once told me that bathroom fans are the cause of quite a few fires.
metalman.
not only bathroom fans but dryer ducts should be cleaned out at least once a year, I do mine twice a year.

and never never leave a dryer running in the home without someone being there!!
