Prince George, B.C. - "Shatter the Silence, Stop the Violence" is the theme of this year's Take Back the Night march in Prince George this evening...

The 19th annual event begins at 6:30pm at City Hall.  March spokesperson, Jillien Humphrey, says the march, itself, will involve women and children walking through the streets of downtown Prince George, using their voices to sing and chant the message of anti-violence.

RCMP Superintendent Brenda Butterworth-Carr and Mayor Dan Rogers are confirmed to speak at the event and there will be a speak-out panel following the march for those wanting to share their personal stories.

As has always been the case in Prince George, men are welcome to come and support the event by cheering on the marchers and to take part in a reception afterwards, hosted by the local group, the Men Against Violence Against Women Committee.

Humphrey says in many communities across the country, the 'Take Back the Night' march has evolved to include men in the march-portion of the event.  She says, "Therefore, for this year's event, we are asking for feedback from the community of Prince George on what they think about this.  We welcome feedback regarding the inclusion of men in the event."
